We all got our opinions, but for me the bottom line is this. If we make an all out offensive against ISIS, IS or ISIL, whatever their name is today, and if we wipe them off the face of the earth, within a year another fanatical group will surface, and once again will be in the name of Islam. We've been fighting Muslims, of some form or another, for nearly a thousand years, and we'll probably be fighting them for a thousand more. If there is a light in that particular darkness, its going to be a long time before it shines brightly. |

Read this: http://www.bbc.com/news/world-middle-east-34830626 I wanted to highlight this part: "To maintain the flow of recruits in the long term, the jihadists need to make Muslims feel more vulnerable and alienated in Western societies. And in countries such as the UK, this objective is being achieved." You're absolutely right, Suffolk, that if we defeat ISIS then another one will take its place. That's because they are being successful in making many people hate Islam, forcing them to be horrible to Muslims. This will never be over as long as people talk of division, of 'us' and 'them', look at people with suspicion just because of what their appearance. I'm not saying we need to embrace jihadists or anything like that. We just need to remember that 'intolerance' is what they are trying to create, and by being intolerant ourselves, we don't defeat our enemy, we strengthen them. These immigrants, or refugees, have faced such a struggle to be here, but that struggle is nothing compared to the struggle that we face in not letting these incidences stop us showing human compassion in the face of fear. We must stand up against these forces of darkness, and like Gwent alluded to, we must shine even brighter. |

Russia has offered a reward of $50 million for information leading to the capture of those responsible for the plane bombing in Egypt. Someone might claim it, but I wouldn't fancy their chances of getting the opportunity to spend it.

I would have thought tonight was the safest time to hold major sporting tournaments. Security will be so tight that any terrorist attack on them is very unlikely. Its other parts of the cities where the games are being played that will be more at risk. |

To have the opinion that we shouldn't take in these refugees (or that Islam is evil) is exactly what ISIS want you to think. I don't know about you, but this is reason enough for me to be more open to the idea. |

Let me put that another way, lest you think I'm saying that you can't have a divergent opinion: I share both your opinions and your fears but I fight the urge to promote them because I recognize that they are corrosive. More harm than good comes from this point of view, however widespread and understandable. To turn the other cheek is so much harder to do in reality, especially when its at such a large scale, but that doesn't make it any less important. |
