Actually, parts of North Carolina (the area called Research Triangle Park in particular) are a hotbed of ideas and technological advancement, but other parts are, well, different. Woodland, NC has a population of about 800, with an annual average income of $22,125 (about £14,600), so it's not exactly the cream of the crop in the USA. I am very disappointed that a school teacher (even if she's an elementary school teacher) would have such a limited grasp of science, but the story seems to be accurate. I doubt that ignorance is limited to the USA, but we can certainly provide some good 'bad examples' from time to time. |
