That news has come as a complete shock to me, I never even knew he was ill.

I saw him at the Hammersmith Odeon in 1973, hadn't been a fan before that, but was hooked after that concert.

RIP

What a great shame. I have some Bowie albums which have been gathering dust for years. Always liked his stuff and his different creations. A brilliant artist right up there with the very best. He was also not part of the establishment having turned down a knighthood and a CBE.

A top top man taken too early.

I used to bit a bit envious of him thirty years ago, many of the prettiest girls fancied him ... and I thought that wasn't fair! But musically he never really moved me that much although that isn't to say I haven't had a high respect for his creative work ...

I only got into David Bowie due to a friend having a spare ticket for the 1973 gig at the Hammersmith Odeon, I'd never really known him for anything other that Space Oddity before that, and that had been 4 years earlier in 1969. But after that night I was a fan forever more.

A funny thing happened that night. Our seats were in the balcony, but after the interval one of the group I was with said lets go downstairs and get right to the front. As the lights dimmed for the second part of the show, i ran straight to the front of the stage, thinking my friends were with me. They weren't, it was just me with hordes of screaming fans pushing on top of me. I was literally pinned to the front of the stage, I couldn't move any which way.

He came out singing Drive in Saturday, and at one point he was stooping down in front of me, staring straight into my eyes crooning at me. I felt very uncomfortable as a) at that point I wasn't really a fan and b) I was aware of his diverse sexual preferences :O , and it seemed to go on for ages. ;) :D

You were lucky to see him live Keith. I would loved to have seen him in his pomp.
