Been a while since I done one of these and after looking through previous previews, thought this might be the place to put an LFC-neutral view of the game.

Reading v Sheff Wed - Saturday 23rd Jan 2016

Venue: Madejski Stadium

League Position: Reading - 14th ................. Sheff Wed - 6th

Form: Reading - WLDWL ......... Sheff Wed - WWWLW

Reading recorded an excellent 5-2 win over Huddersfield in the FA Cup to give fans hope of a mini revival in the league, which has wielded just 2 wins in the last 6 matches. Both those wins were 1-0 home wins. Last time out, MK Dons recorded a narrow 1-0 home win over Reading, but it's Reading's home form which keeps them away from the bottom teams, where they have collected 22 points. Sheffield Wednesday have won 5 of their last 6 teams in the league with only a defeat at Middlesbrough tarnishing a perfect run. However, they've only won one of their last 5 away games.

Managers: Brian McDermott (Reading) 2W-1D-1L v Sheff Wed VS. Carlos Carvalhal (Sheff Wed) 0W-1D-0L v Reading

History: The sides drew 1-1 in August. Daniel Williams opened the scoring for Reading, Modou Sougou scored an equalizer in the last minute of the game. Reading's win in January last year over Sheff Wed was their only win in the 5 most recent matches, stretching back to 2013. Sheff Wed recorded 3 straight victories before that game. However Reading have the better record against Sheff Wed in Championship meetings, winning 6 of the 11 meetings, losing just them 3 games.

Formations: Reading tend to play a 4-4-2 with deep lying midfielders or a 4-2-3-1 formation. Against MK Dons they set up with a 4-2-3-1. In fact, their last 2 Championship victories have come using the 4-2-3-1 formation. Sheffield Wednesday are flexible with their formations, they used a 4-2-3-1 in the home win over Leeds. They can play with one or two up front.

Goalscorers: Matej Vydra scored 4 goals over 2 FA Cup games against Huddersfield and he now has 6 for the season. Forward Orlando Sa and midfielder Daniel Williams have 5 apiece. There doesn't appear to many goalscorers in Reading's ranks since Blackman's departure, but it's also an opportunity for a new player to take the limelight on the goalscoring front. Gary Hooper has scored 4 in his last 2 and has 6 from 13 appearances. Fernando Forestieri is the club's top scorer, with 11 goals. He's scored 4 goals from 4 starts on the right wing, but is best deployed in a second striker role. Striker Lucas Joao has 7 for the season, 5 in the league, while central midfielder Lewis McGugan has 3 goals from 11 appearances.

Prediction:
Should be a good game, Reading are off the back of an impressive win against Huddersfield and with their home form, they might just stop Sheffield Wednesday's 3 game winning streak. I'm going for a high scoring draw.
