FA Cup Upsets Game – Round Four
One-off Weekend Game

Here’s a fun competition, and it’s a one-off game, so make a prediction and then sit back and enjoy! It’s a game orientated to your forum, but it’s a game orientated to a few special friendly forums, namely:

Reading - Royals Rendezvous
Blackpool - Back Henry Street
Peterborough – The Posh Forum
Sunderland – Black Cat Chat
Newcastle – Toon Forum
Watford – WFC Forums
WBA – Baggies Zone
Leeds – LUFC Talk
Liverpool – Talk the Reds
Bournemouth - CourtOffside

How do I play, you’ll ask?! Well, have a look at the teams on the FA Cup Round FOUR programme below - I’d like to invite you to call for just FOUR matches where you see a possible upset on the cards! By upset, it must obviously be a lower league side winning (or at least drawing) against a higher league side. You haven't got to give any score, simply guess the match of the successful 'smaller clubs' or ‘minnow’ teams! If you get it wrong doesn’t matter at all, you don’t get awarded points for that particular game or games – and that will surely apply to all of us.

So … how do you get points?
If in your selected games a lower league side does indeed win you have 3 points. If the lower league side force a replay then it is 1 point (note - doesn’t matter if they later lose the replay). But ... bonus - if you choose an real ‘upset’ (win/draw) – a team from a league TWO tiers OR MORE lower their opponents then those points are DOUBLED.

To help you, use the asterisks by the games list to make an easy-peasy selection:
one asterisk (*) = one tier difference /
two asterisks (**) = two or more tier differences /
Meanwhile “ --- ” on the list of matches means this prediction is not valid, don’t include these options as it’s no cup upset if teams are from the same tier league!
This is the real betting man's stuff - the more you risk with tier difference the more points you get, but there again, an upset is much less likely!! So you need to weigh things up!!
+ NEW! Postponed or Abandoned? In this unlikely event the game is void, but you are awarded one point for the inconvenience!

FOURTH ROUND DRAW

FRIDAY - 29TH JANUARY
* Derby v Manchester United

SATURDAY - 30TH JANUARY
* Arsenal v Burnley
* Bury v Hull City
** Colchester v Tottenham
--- Crystal Palace v Stoke City
--- Bolton v Leeds United

* Reading v Walsall
** Portsmouth v Bournemouth
* Nottingham Forest v Watford
** Oxford United v Blackburn
* Shrewsbury v Sheffield Wednesday
** West Bromwich v Peterborough
--- Aston Villa v Manchester City

SUNDAY – 31ST JANUARY

* MK Dons v Chelsea

Have fun - answers on this thread please - CAREFUL closing time BEFORE KICK-OFF of the first Friday match [ 29th January - 7.55 pm ]
Points and the placings for this comp will appear on this thread within a couple of days after the last match for this round has been played … I’ll give both the complete points for your forum, and the top dozen overall positions on all forums together for even more prestigious bragging rights!

Good luck!

So the Collected Wisdom of RR has the following possibilities favored for a Cupset:

** Oxford United v Blackburn - 9 of 9 - 100%
* Nottingham Forest v Watford - 8 of 9 - 89%
* Derby v Manchester United - 5 of 9 - 55%
* MK Dons v Chelsea- 3 of 9 - 33%
** Portsmouth v Bournemouth- 3 of 9 - 33%
** West Brom v Peterborough- 3 of 9 - 33%
* Reading v Walsall - 2 of 9 - 22%
* Arsenal v Burnley - 1 of 9 - 11%
* Bury v Hull City - 1 of 9 - 11%
* Shrewsbury v Sheffield Wednesday - 1 of 9 - 11%

I'm sure Oxford United and Nottingham Forest would be encouraged by our faith in them, and Everton, Tottenham, Arsenal, Hull City and Sheffield Wednesday as well. Colchester and Carlisle will be bitterly disappointed no doubt. ;)

Having witness Colchester first hand against Reading this season, and knowing the strength of Spurs, that is the one game which can't be an upset surely!!

A bit harsh to say 'dropped points' - these choices ranged from unlikely to 'never-in-a-million matches' quality. At this level, I'd expect 4 points to be a winning hand for a board, and 7 to be a winner across the competition - and that could prove a high estimate!

I sincerely hope Wolfy and I do not profit from our selection of the Reading-Walsall match as a possible upset, but this season, one never knows what performance a Royals team will provide on the day...

It's a calculated risk...

Wolfy is on a roll at the moment so thanks to him I am already resigned to life after the FA Cup now!

No upset yesterday, and early kick-off is at half-time (7 mins stoppage time!) and: Colchester 0 - 1 Tottenham

Might be a tough weekend for any upsets ...

TBH, Colchester over Tottenham would be an epic fail for Tottenham. Those can happen, but they are very rare. Most of the other Cupset opportunities would be 'normal' failures... OK, Carlisle winning :O could be epic, too. ;)

Been a terrible game this time around, hardly any surprises.

Still waiting for tomorrow so don't get excited anyone, but at this minute I believe bristleposh from the Posh Forum to be the only candidate from the whole country who correctly guessed both upsets!
