Liverpool fans plan walkout protest at £77 ticket prices

Liverpool supporters' groups are planning a walkout protest during Saturday's Premier League match at Anfield against Sunderland.

The Spion Kop 1906 group - backed by the Spirit of Shankly (SoS) - have suggested fans leave their seats in the 77th minute in protest at the £77 top-priced ticket in the new main stand.

The club have announced the increased price, up from £59, for next season.

An SoS statement expressed its anger at "no explanation" from the owners.

The statement added: "The outcome is extremely disappointing and a missed opportunity for Liverpool to lead in a fairer approach to ticket prices. We believe it is right and fair to lower ticket prices in order to sustain our support and subsequently the atmosphere inside Anfield."

Liverpool chief executive Ian Ayre highlighted the freeze or decrease in 64% of season ticket prices and 45% of matchday tickets.

No one wants to sit in the Main Stand anyway, thats for day trippers, the only time you want to sit in the Main Stand is if you are desperate for a ticket or you can afford it and dont give a flying shit on the price. No one wants to sit next to the day tripper with his/her 3 bags full of souvenir stuff they've spent £300 on in the Liverpool FC shop. I've had that experience. Sitting there cheering on the team when these day trippers, recording everything on a tablet and not even singing. I have stood by these supporters' groups in the past but they seem to be missing the point on this one. Season Ticket prices have been frozen for some and slashed for even more fans. My Facebook lit up when the ticket details came out everyone happy that it will be cheaper. They are making the stand bigger for many reasons but the main one is to make money and we all knew that from the beginning it was for more money, weve been asking for new stadium or expansion to keep up with the likes of Man United and Arsenal for a long time but to keep up you also have charge more. Its not as if they are charging this price for the whole stadium.
