Evening Chaps,
I was hoping for some advice please, as we sold out our allocation very quickly, and as a non-season ticket holder I was not able to get tickets. I'm based in norfolk so it was impossible to get to ground to queue. is there any point in 2 of us traveling at the weekend in the hope of getting into a "friendly" stand ?

We are 2 blokes in our 50's so no "risk" associated with us.

As to the game, we have been performing in a very typically Tony Pulis "stoke" mode, its horrible to watch and is splitting the fans quite badly, half saying endure it to maintain Premiership status, half wanting him out see some entertainment again.
Consequently its unlikely to be a classic, we struggled to beat both Bristol City and Peterborough, (in fact we didn't beat posh as they lost on pens) so on that form you have an excellent chance of getting something out of the game.

We will very likely be playing 4 centre-halves and looking for set pieces to "nick one". What style are the Royals employing now, I have always associated you with attractive football and using pace, is that till valid?

one last qu, how is Matty Vydra doing, he looked like he had great potential when he was with us, but seemed to lack physically has he come on at all?

thanks for reading,

Oh and Diabo, long time since you visited Wbazone mate, pop by

We won't sell out. I reckon the gate will be around 20,000 so around 4000 seat won't be filled. So you will probably be able to get tickets in the home end. Not sure the tickets are £10 for non members though.

Vydra works hard but has been a big disappointment with an abysmal goals return in the League. He may not be fit for Saturday.

Cheers for writing, ceeertainly haven't forgotten you, if I'm truthful I spend more time on BaggiesZone :$ but that's not to do with anything detrimental to your fine forum. Well that's reminded me, I'll come on tomorrow and get a "Reading fan Chat" topic started tomorrow :)

As to tickets I'd prefer the guys local to Reading at the present time to pick up on this one ...

Thanks Diab0. It may well have been baggieszone where our paths crossed, not been on there for a while as it was becoming a stats site rather than a forum,
Anyway, looking forward to the game, quite a big opportunity for both clubs to progress to a high profile game. I can't see anyway it will be anything other than a tight tense affair. Got to say I am not upset Vydra is out, as ex-players seem to love putting us to the sword.

Should be a good atmosphere with 4k "official" baggies plus plenty scattered around ad hoc. Overall we are a pretty civilised lot, so don't see any issues with that. We can be quite vocal on away-days and my memories of Reading (Kyocera days) are of a good friendly atmosphere with a reasonable amount of good humoured banter.

Anyway, its looking like taking a chance on picking up tickets on the day, so will be arriving early.
I'd like to wish you good luck, but, well you know the rest.......

Hi again Albionic, and I'm rather sorry but the home page I have for WBAZone just doesn't work - I hold it as: http://www.wbazone.com/forum/index.php
On our forums list I have you guys listed with the comment:
"(Nice site. The chat is very pleasurable if you go on there in a sensible manner, full of genuine posters)"
and I know in former days you also contributed in the Inter-Forums games too - please put us up-to-date with the current link, I don't want to lose touch!! :) :)

got a great reply from another Baggies fan coming up:

GR8 APE

How generally is your season panning out (you look well safe from relegation worry I’d say)? How will it go from now on then? Where do you see yourselves finishing – by using both your head and heart?!

Well this has been a heated debate recently :D

Last season was painful and we all thanked the heavens that Pulis came to our rescue. The football was ugly but we simply didn't care, survival after Alan Irvine was all we cared about, get to the summer and we rebuild.

We invested heavily into our squad, over £30m, which is the largest net spend in a season in the entire clubs history. This saw us bring in Rondon (£12m), Chester (£8m), Evans (£8m), Lambert (£3m), McClean (£1.5m), as well as Lindegaard on a free. It is also worth noting we held on to Saido Berahino, an asset to our club worth over £20m and on the fringes of England, from the outside it looked a phenomenal window for our club .Understandably expectations of supporters rose beyond "survival", we were hoping to push on a bit and I think a general feeling was for mid table but with a cheeky optimistic feeling we could even flirt with europe (perhaps was too far fetched but such is the excitement during pre season).

In essence what we have seen for our £30m investment is very little. Our style of play hasn't changed, we are very much 10 men behind the ball, surrender possession, and wait for a set piece to hopefully grab a lead that we can then defend. Results have not been as expected but have been just enough to see us safe. We are the 2nd lowest goal scorers in the league, we have the least possession during games in the league and if I remember right we have the lowest no of passes. Of course many will say results not stats matter but it paints you a picture of how we approach games.

Attendances have dropped, fans are arguing amongst themselves (mostly over Pulis, some supporting him, some against him), we aren't really a happy camp. I think once we achieve the magic 40 it will be tough to keep the players motivated to push on from there. I predict a 14th place finish on 44 points.

Any useful new incoming talented players this season? Could you mention a few of your hottest talents to inform the RR members?

Jonny Evans without a shadow of a doubt is our player of the season so far. He has been an incredible signing, how Man Utd deemed him surplus to requirements is beyond me as he wouldn't be lost in a top 4 defence or playing in Europe, I mean that and it isn't me with Blue n White specs on. James McClean has been a somewhat controversial summer signing and he didn't get past pre season without controversy, however I must say he has really knuckled down and simply got on with things, he likes to play the game on the edge and has a phenomenal work rate and is a strong player for us defensively on that left hand side. Sadly no other incoming players in the Summer or January have really made any major impact.

We Royals have suffered a nasty slump from a high second place a month and a half into the season, to a muddy 15th as I write this. Perhaps Steve Clarke nearly doing a ‘runner’ to Fulham was in some way influential in this, this considerably ‘rocked’ the boat as it were, and the still newish Thai owners seem decent folk but perhaps lack a professional insight into the English game. With your experiences did you think Clarke should maybe have done better for the Royals?

It all seemed fairly positive up until the Fulham fiasco, which was quite similar to his time with us when there were rumours he wanted to talk to Everton. With us he had major issues with an employee who was allegedly undermining him and causing a lot of cultural problems, we remember this employee by the name McDonut. Shortly after Clarke went I think it became apparent of the failings and issues with McDonut and he too went. We never as a club recovered until Pulis stepped in. I don't quite understand what happened at Reading and why out of nowhere he wanted to leave to go to Fulham. After the move didn't materialise it seems the whole relationship broke down on many levels and you never recovered and are still suffering. I expected you to do better but these situations are never as simple as laying the entire blame at the Managers door.

As I’ve mentioned the recent games make for some grim reading. But now with a welcome back for Brian McDermott, the man who last got us up to the Premier league. Can he do it twice? That’s the big question! So from a neutral, any thoughts of the Royals (reproducible please!), and where do you think we might go from here?

As said above I'm somewhat baffled with whats been going on recently at Reading and a gut feeling suggests the problems are not solely at the Managers door. There is a lot of strong competition in the Championship all chasing promotion and with Villa, and in my opinion Norwich, and Bournemouth coming down it will be even tougher next season. I suspect you will find a way to improve, you seem to have a decent infrastructure and wealthy backers, I think mid table is where you may end up but I'm not convinced you have the direction at the top to take you back to the Premiership.

Looking ahead to the game – I’d just firstly like to say to remember that fine FA cup run last season when we got to the semis. However, rather annoyingly (to our fans) we do tend to raise our game against bigger teams and then take the foot off the accelerator for lower sides. Even if you’re leaving a prediction elsewhere, could you give me just a quick indication of how you see the game going?

You will 'dominate' the game in terms of territory and possession. We will see around 35% of the ball with you at 65%. You will end up with about 10 shots at goal and 5 or 6 on target but only 1 goal for all your huff and puff. We will steel a draw from a set piece which around the 60th minute and will be our first shot on target, and we will hold on to a replay back at our place where I think we will grind out a win on penalties after a 0-0.

If you do come down, you'd probably be best in the GU1 to GU3 area (Upper West Stand) as this area is usually quite empty and it's next to the away end.

The current ticket sales are looking like this:

Green - Lots of tickets left.
Red - Few tickets left.
