NBC Sports: Europa League Round of 16 Draw - Liverpool/United Head List Of Draws

Giants collide in the last 16 of the Europa League. With no seeding and no protection from meeting clubs in your own domestic league for the 16 remaining teams left in European soccer’s second-tier competition, this draw was always going to be juicy.

It delivered and has left us salivating with bitter rivals Liverpool and Manchester United meeting and Borussia Dortmund clashing with Tottenham Hotspur. Wowza.

Liverpool and United has never met in European competition and although both clubs would rather be in the UEFA Champions League, one of the biggest rivalries in world soccer is heading to the Europa League. As for the other marquee matchup, two teams stacked with young talent in Dortmund and Spurs will clash in what will be a hugely entertaining encounter over the two legs.

Other big clashes see an all Spanish tie with Athletic Bilbao and Valencia squaring off, while Villarreal face Bayer Leverkusen in another tasty tie. Remember, the winner of the Europa League gets an automatic spot in next season’s UEFA Champions League group stage.

Below is the full schedule for the Europa League last 16, as the first leg will take place on Mar. 10 and the second leg on Mar. 17.

Interesting fact here for the trivia-minded....it may sound hard to believe, but for all the collective histories of Liverpool & Manchester United in Europe, the coming Round of 16 draw between them will be the first time that England's Rivalry of Rivalries has taken on European overtones....to borrow Clyde's earlier comment, "whoever said the Europa League wasn't important?"

Great draw for the neutrals and the football world but going to be a tricky game, Man Utd getting some results with their youngsters filling in for the injured first team regulars, just think with the amount of injuries it is still a good time to play them. First leg is vital for us, could do with a decent result at home and clean sheet. 2-0 be perfect.

As for Dortmund and Spurs, Spurs need to get back on track domestically, it's a huge chance for them to win the title, they lost to West Ham and were knocked out the FA Cup so they must prioritize the league despite anything the manager says in the press. Dortmund are a good side this season and even if Spurs go head first into this tie with their best side I can see Dortmund winning both legs so get your priorities set and quickly Poch!
