Having gone to my first one in 1967 at Windsor Racecourse before it moved to Reading my next one was in 1979 when bands like The Cure,Police and that ilk were on.But also was a few heavy metel bands like Saxon and Iron Maiden.A year later was my favourite with UFO and Whitesnake headlining.Still love it and watch it on BBC and I know my daughter and son in law are wetting themselves over Muse this year but what was your best year and anyone going this year.Which do you prefer Glastonbury or Reading.Cant wait to meet up with William and Suffolk to go to this years, hope they bring plenty of Stella with them :D

Please feel free to leave any news on this year's Reading Festival here - to start off, a gentle traffic warning!!:

Motorists are being warned of delays in the Reading area as the town gears up for its annual music festival.

Reading Borough Council said it was expecting traffic to start arriving at the Richfield Avenue site on Wednesday.

The council has also set up a festival hotline for residents to report problems such as noise and officers will be on standby to respond.

About 90,000 people are expected at the three-day event, which features acts including The Cure and Foo Fighters.

Revellers are being urged to use public transport, cycle or walk to the festival which begins on Friday.

Reading Festival 2012: Billy Talent
http://www.bracknellnews.co.uk/theguide/goingout/articles/2012/08/23/62108-reading-festival-2012-billy-talent

You might think that playing festivals is just how it goes when you're the lead singer of a punk band, but even after almost 20 years on the music scene, Billy Talent are tour stalwarts who never take a festival slot for granted.

Benjamin Kowalewicz, Billy Talent frontman, explains: "The thing that is so interesting from being Canadian is that we don't have festival culture in our country, so to be able to come to the UK, to Reading, Leeds etc. all the legendary events. To be part of that, to chisel our little name into that, is a dream come true for us. We're very proud to be playing."

He added: "We're really excited to see you and we promise to play the best f***ing show ever!"

After years of hard graft, the angst-ridden four-piece are back on the road with stacks of energy and a slot on Saturday's much-coveted NME stage. Kowalewicz says: "We always have a weird, fun, cosmic day there. Anyone that goes to Reading knows what I'm talking about. We get to play with so many amazing bands, with all our friends. This year the line-up is amazing. We're really stoked as one of our favourite bands of all time, At The Drive In are also playing. We're floored."

"We're going to bring some new songs and a bad ass show. I rented all the gear from Muse... Just kidding! We love Muse, though, their live shows are amazing."

The band's catchy lyrics, enveloped in their trademark melancholy, pounding sounds, have had fans hook, line and sinker for years. Back with a new album, Dead Silence, a Rock Sound tour, and, perhaps, a more mature sound, Kowalewicz shared the secret to the band's enduring success: "We evolve, we adapt, we change, get inspired by different things. We are a little bit more focused. On the new album, there are a lot of different textures and they're really different to anything we've ever done. It's good to try different things. We wrote Surrender and I played it back and thought, it's a beautiful song but will people think it's too weird? It turned out to be one of the best songs we ever made. I never want to be a band where everything sounds the same. Each song is amazing but different."

Off stage, Kowalewicz says nowadays the band prefer a quiet life: "We are the biggest losers you'll ever meet, we're nerds! At the end of the day we're here to play rock'n'roll shows. The only people who would suffer are going to be the fans." He added: "We signed a pact when we were young, there was an unconscious thing to be loyal to the four of us, the songs, the greater good and the sound. We get on stage and have a f***ing blast, we love playing together. All the other stuff doesn't count."

Reading Festival severe weather warning
http://www.getbracknell.co.uk/news/special_features/reading_festival/s/2119320_reading_festival_severe_weather_warning

Reading Festival fans may have to strap on the wellies and strap down their tents on Saturday. The Met Office has issued a severe weather warning for London and South East England.

The yellow weather warning predicts spells of heavy rain and thundery showers which may have the potential to cause disruption during Saturday.

They warn the public to be aware of the risk of surface water flooding, with strong to gale force winds an additional hazard for southern counties. Heavy rain is forecast to hit Reading from 7pm tomorrow dying out on Saturday night. Temperatures will be cool with daytime highs around 18 degrees.

The outlook for Sunday is better with some sunshine expected during the day. It will remain cool.

Older ones no, but I've been to a few! When I was a teenager I was never really into rock music, was much more of a 'casual'. Reading Rock weekend, me and a bunch of mates used to canoe up the Thames from Thames Valley Business Park to Mapledurham and back, camping out in the evenings.

That was fun, but the real fun started when I discovered that rock music was actually pretty amazing and had some fantastic weekends there since...especially now I live on the coast. It's great to go back to 3 Men and some of my old haunts before hitting the festival!

Update from the BBC -

Reading Festival organisers are confident the site will cope with predicted wet weather. More than 87,000 music fans will see Foo Fighters, Kasabian and The Cure headline the three-day event which began on Friday lunchtime.

Weather forecasters are predicting heavy rain over the weekend at the Richfield Avenue site. Organisers stress there will not be a repeat of problems seen at this summer's Isle of Wight Festival. Melvin Benn has been organising and promoting the festival since 1989.

He said: "Reading Festival has been going since 1971 and we've seen much worse conditions than the Isle of Wight experienced earlier this year. We've put in an infrastructure at the site with additional pumps over the years to cope with the high water table. We're also in the middle of a city and people can either walk or get the train to the site, they don't have to drive here."

Since the festival site opened on Wednesday, 17 crimes have been reported to Thames Valley Police. They include thefts of two tickets, a pair of shoes and a bag. Two people have been reported for possession of cannabis, six for drug possession excluding cannabis and another five for possession with intent to supply drugs.
