Regarding the points record, I think a team will beat it sooner rather than later. But I can see us keeping the 13 wins record at the start of a season for many years to come, I can't remember any team getting really close. |

Football League Official Site Northampton Town sealed the first Football League promotion last weekend – now manager Chris Wilder wants to secure the Sky Bet League 2 title. The Cobblers drew 2-2 with Bristol Rovers at Sixfields to put them on 88 points, 16 ahead of the fourth-placed Gas with five to play, confirming their return to Sky Bet League 1 after a seven-year exile. They are 12 points clear of Oxford United, who are second, so can become the first Football League team to wrap up a title on Saturday when they visit Exeter City. “We want that title and we are looking for a big finish,” Wilder, whose side haven't lost since 19th December, 19 games ago, told ntfc.co.uk. “To be the first team in the country promoted is a fantastic achievement and last Saturday was just a great day all round. There was a fantastic atmosphere from the off and you saw with the scenes at the end what this football club means to the supporters. The players deserved to go out and celebrate but we are back to work now. We are really focused on having a good end to the season. That’s the mentality of the group right the way through and it’s a good quality to have.” The Cobblers travel to Exeter with the second-best away record in Sky Bet League 2, having notched 13 wins from 20 trips, losing only twice. But, like the Town, the ninth-placed Grecians are one of the division's form teams. Paul Tisdale's side are unbeaten in nine, winning their most recent three, and are outside the Play-Offs on goal difference only. “There are a few teams looking to come out of the pack and Exeter are definitely one of those,” Wilder added. “They are on a great run and they will want to carry that on but we are not there to make up the numbers, we’ve got our own ambitions and our own focus.” |
