Relegation 2015/16 - The Fight To Retain League Status

It is that time where relegation comes to ahead and teams are fighting tooth and nail and clinging on for dear life to their Football League status.
Unfortunately two teams will go down into the National League (Football Conference) and the two currently occupying those slots are Dagenham & Redbridge and York City.
What makes it worse for the bottom two at present is that they are at least nine points from that life saving third from bottom slot and with six (York) and eight (Dagenham) games left to play they have it all to do to stay up.

After the weekend it now means that anybody above Crawley in sixteenth spot are safe and the rest can still mathematically go down but it would be some comeback by the bottom two to stay up this late in the day.

Tonight (Tuesday 5th April 2016) sees Dagenham at home to Morecambe as they try in their eight games to start winning. Morecambe though are one of the teams who it is possible to be be relegated so a win here is a big win for either side. Also featuring is Hartlepool away at Carlisle and a win for the home side would guarantee them League Two football next season. In tonight's remaining fixture Stevenage, who occupy third from bottom, face Yeovil Town at home. A win could be massive for the Hertfordshire side but both Dagenham and York will be hoping for a Yeovil win so Stevenage don't increase that gap to safety.

The results last night were:

Carlisle 1 Hartlepool 0, so Hartlepool still need a win to be mathematically sure of League Two football next season.

Dagenham & Redbridge 2 Morecambe 1 - A really big 3 points for the Daggers who are still bottom of the League and favourites for the drop but they have seven games left to achieve safety.

Stevenage 0 Yeovil 0 - Will Stevenage see this as a point gained or two points dropped in the relegation battle. The point still leaves them third from bottom but the gap to York is now ten points. Not insurmountable but when you are down there and not winning it must seem huge.

York have managed just 3 draws in their last ten games and on that form with only six games left to save themselves you have to say it is the conference for them unless they have one massive turnaround and quickly. To make matters worse their next match is at home to Wycombe who are just in the play off spots and will be battling to get a spot and a chance of promotion.
Dagenham however are fairing a little better with 2 wins in their last six games, which if they did that again wouldn't save them but they are at least winning again. This weekend though they face Portsmouth at home and Portsmouth sit in 6th in a play off spot and will be looking to win it as an automatic spot is not beyond them.

Given that York have a ten point deficit on Stevenage, with six to play - I don't see either Dagenham or York staying in the division.
