Saturday 9th April 2016 West Ham United v Arsenal The early kick off sees a London derby with the Hammers in the hunt for a top four spot and only 3 points behind man City currently in 4th spot. A win for them would be a big boost in keeping those hopes alive and beating a top four side. The magic of Payet last week is something Arsenal will need to contend with if they want to take the points in their still slim outside hopes of winning the title. West ham have drawn their last two games where the Gunners have won but in derby games form goes out the window. Looking very much a draw to me. Aston Villa v Bournemouth Villa mathematically do still have a chance of staying up but most people see them as a Championship side for next season. Currently managerless after Remi Garde went the caretaker Black must lead them again in a match they must surely hope they can win. With only 3 wins all season though it wont be easy for them. The Cherries on the other hand sit mid table under Eddie Howe and a win for them takes them to the magical forty points. They go into this though on the back of two defeats, so what may look an easy game probably won't be. I just can't see Villa winning but they may muster a draw. Crystal Palace v Norwich City A real six pointer this of the two teams just above the relegation zone and while they have a four and seven point buffer from Sunderland a defeat for either could just put them back in possible threat of relegation if Sunderland and Newcastle start picking up points. Palace haven't won in over ten games and it is that form that sees them in 16th place and still not totally safe. Norwich have flirted with danger all season and winning last week against Newcastle has made sure even a defeat here keeps them out of the bottom three. That said they need to win to keep that gap and move towards safety. This could go anyway but even with their form you have to fancy Palace as favourites. Southampton v Newcastle United Southampton could still grab a Europa spot if results go their way over the remaining games and that means they will expect the win here. The Toon will not have wanted this trip at this time in a bid to save their season from relegation. with no win in six Rafa Benitez will be wondering just where his first win will come from and in all honesty I don't think it will be here. Swansea City v Chelsea The Swans are virtually safe after a run of 3 wins and a draw in the last 5 games but they face a resurgent Chelsea who have quietly moved up the league. Europa is not mathematically beyond the blues but probably not going to happen for them but with the league the only thing left for them they will want to get as high as they can. I think a back on form Chelsea will be too much for Swansea. Watford v Everton Watford are all but certain of Premiership football next season and sit a point behind their visitors today. They haven't won in six games and Everton will go there thinking they can get all three points. Everton have been inconsistent this season but that said their away form is really good having lost only twice away from home but that does include last week at Manchester United. If Lukaku is on form then the supply that Everton provide should give them the edge and the away win. Manchester City v West Bromwich Albion City will want to make sure they finish in the top four and with their Manchester rivals breathing down their neck need three points here. The Baggies face a tough ask but at least they have 40 points and security of Premiership football next season. They also do have the ability for an upset with a goal on the counter against City. If City aren't tired from the midweek Champions League game then it should be a home win formality. Sunday 10th April 2016 Sunderland v Leicester City Four points from safety means this is a big game and a must win for Big Sam's side. A run of four draws leaves them sitting on an open door to the Championship with their name on it and they can't draw their games or they will surely be through that door. The surprise of the year are Leicester and they now sit with the title in their hands and surely don't want to let it slip away. Eight wins in the last ten means that will be favourites for this one but matches against teams at the bottom at this time in the season don't always go the way you expect. I though do expect it to go with form and a win for Leicester. Liverpool v Stoke City Klopp has shown at times that he can get Liverpool playing like a team who could challenge for the top and then at others they flatter to decieve. You almost wonder every time they play which side will turn out. Stoke are above their hosts at the moment and they are another side that at times show they can match anyone but recent results has seen their chances of European football slip away. This is a match you have to go home win with but if the wrong Liverpool turn up then you never know. Tottenham Hotspur v Manchester United Without doubt the game of the weekend which sees second visit fifth in a battle both teams want to win. United are after a top four spot and a win here and results in their favour could see them in the top four. Spurs are probably the only side that can realistically beat Leicester to the title and they will want to push the Foxes all the way. Had Spurs been at home I think I would have gone with them but as they aren't it looks a draw is most likely. |
