Get Reading Police investigate Wokingham station ram raid According to the station manager the incident at Wokingham train station is being investigated as a ram raid Police officers and have cordoned off the ticket office at Wokingham station and are investigating the suspected ram raid. Network Rail staff, which runs the station, were alerted shortly before 2.30am on Wednesday, June 29 after a Land rover defender ploughed into the station building. According to the station manager the incident is being investigated as a ram raid, while South West Trains has described it as a break-in. It is not yet clear whether the offenders stole anything. A clean up operation is underway and engineers are attempting to remove the vehicle, which has smashed through a large glass panel. No services are affected and passengers are able to access both platforms. South West Trains spokesman said: "We are assisting police with their inquiries into an incident which took place at Wokingham station last night while the station was closed. Trains are continuing to serve the station as normal this morning, however due to damage caused to the station building during the incident, the booking hall is currently closed. However, we have additional customer service staff at the station to assist customers in buying tickets." He added: “We are assisting police with their inquiries into the incident, including providing them with CCTV footage.” |
