From the South Bank to the East Stand
This has been bugging me for weeks so I thought I'd write it down on here! :D

Now, I'm not dissing Jose's man management or tactical nuances in anyway here, I'm frustrated because of his history with using youth players.

We know from history that United produce some awesome talent in their youth system - Beckham, the Nevilles, Giggs, Scholes, Pogba, to name just a few, and last season we saw the emergence of Marcus Rashford, James Wilson, Tyler Blackett, Cameron Borthwick-Jackson, to name just a few. If there was one thing Van Gaal DID do right, it was having faith in these players and giving them a chance in the first team.

When he was in charge at Chelsea, Mourinho effectively dissed the youth coming through and a lot of them were sold; Daniel Sturridge, Nemanja Matic (who was eventually bought back), Romelu Lukaku, again, to name just a few.

As far as the national team are concerned, we have looked to United for top English players over the years and it's concerning that this top English football team has a manager that doesn't have any faith in the youngsters coming through, and for some of them, allowing them to leave.

Jose is leaving out the youth and bringing in expensive foreign players instead. It cannot bode well for the national team.

But can Reading nip in and get a few of these 'rejects'? <evil grin> Swift sets a nice precedent - they will get opportunities here...

I think your right lad as great as Mourinho may or may not be his vision regarding youth is non existent.

What makes the situation worse is while clubs like the big ones can loan out 30 odd players as Chelsea did last season there is no need for them to develop their own talent they can just buy it up with their big bucks and farm them out to someone else to finish them off and if they don't make the grade they just ditch them like used rubbish.

They could get around some of this by doing some of the following:

  • Give youngsters long term professional contracts so they almost have to keep them to be developed (i.e. minimum 3 years, if cancelled at any time they get a pay off)
  • Limit the amount of players signed to any one club on a permanent basis (i.e. you cannot buy them all and hoard 50+ youth players on a professional contract

First thought is to limit the total players under contract, but that will restrict the number of job opportunities at some of the top clubs. But that could be a two-edged sword, with young players that might develop losing opportunities.
