Reading Chronicle http://www.readingchronicle.co.uk/news/14846671.New_charges_for_public_loos__registry_office_and_other_services New increased fees for using public loos and the registry office IT NOW costs 30p to spend a penny in Reading’s public loos. The eye-watering 50 per cent price rise at the town’s eight public loos is among a host of mid-year fee and charge increases from the cash-strapped council. This is the first time the charge has increased since it was first dumped on residents four years ago. The loos affected are in Northunberland Avenue, Cintra Park, Whitley Street, Prospect Park, Honey End Lane (by Asda), Kentwood Hill, Oxford Road, and Richfield Avenue. There was no relief elsewhere as the charges for wheelie bins and skips increased. Blue Badges for disabled drivers nearly doubled in cost overnight as a decision to bring in a new £10 charge mid-year will net £3,700 by the end of the year. The council will take identity photos for Blue Badges and concession passes for £3. The cost of using services from the registry office, including attending a church outside Reading, replacing a certificate in person, and citizenship ceremonies, were all increased at the meeting of Reading Borough Council's Policy Committee on Monday, October 31. 30p to relieve yourself - too much?!! |

Blimey, glad I don't live in Reading anymore then. They're all free around here. |

I would rather hold it until I could get home or to a shop/Café etc that has a loo. Charging people to answer he call of nature is criminal as far as I'm concerned. |

You say that paying is criminal and morally I would probably agree with you. However when you look at the state of some toilets that are free and then the clean loos that charge and you must think I'd rather use a clean loo. On that basis is 30p too much, possibly not. |

In the little town where I live we have public toilets, with a full time attendant, and they are spotless, and they are free. If one council can do it, all councils can. But the more I hear about Readings council, the more I'm glad I no longer live there. |

yeah, but there again didn't the Suffolk Gazette say that people in East Anglia need to go more times on average than citizens from other areas, therefore see these places for longer time or am I imagining it?!!
