FORMULA 1871 – Predictions of Reading games

Here we are launching our new competition for members only! Should be easy enough to understand, but do get back if any queries ...
daib0

---------------------------------------------------------------

Introduction:
Only weekend games of READING F.C. qualify, and no cup games enter into it.
Competitors initially take part by replying on THIS thread, or if preferred by sending a PM to daib0 simply saying ‘Please include me in the Formula 1871 Prediction competition’ (or something like that!) – please use your normal user name for these competition purposes.

Daibo will make it highly clear on prediction thread for the corresponding matches for the remainder of this season whether the match does count towards the competition or not! You enter each time by simply making a score prediction on the usual already well-established Prediction thread for each individual match itself (or possibly by a PM to daib0, although frankly this is not to be encouraged for reasons of transparency!). Please be CLEAR to avoid misunderstanding - don't say 3-1 or 1-3 but specify the teams: e.g. Reading 3 Team 'X' 1 !

OK the crucial thing - how do you score points?
Easy! – you score between 1 and 5 points for each match that is included, depending on how closely you have made your score prediction guess (before match day) correspond to the real full-time score at end of game. If you don’t enter that week you have ‘0’ points of course.
So … the points awarded are:
5 points – absolute perfection (you get the right result plus the exact number of goals for both teams)
4 points - right result + correct goals for one team (e.g. you say 2-1 but it’s actually 3-1)
3 points - correct result only (but the number of goals for either side is off – e.g. you say Reading to win 2-0 but the result is 4-1))
2 points - wrong result (incorrect outcome) but at least you guess the correct number of goals for one of the teams (e.g. you predict Reading 1 Norwich 2, but final result is Reading 4 Norwich 2)
1 point - wrong result and no goals correct (enough said)
0 points - did not enter at all that week (no prediction received)

Please note -
- Abandoned game (highly unlikely of course) would be scored as a 2 point gift present for everyone who had made a prediction for that game!
- No additional points for goalscorers, red-cards and other player features, as often team selections are given last minute and would result in some giving a goalscorer who is not even on the pitch! And a head-ache for the organizer.
- VERY IMPORTANT - please get your predictions in BEFORE match day, not on the match day itself. The reason is obvious - if the organizer was away on a Saturday then he/she might not know if a prediction had arrived before the match or not! So normally, and to help us even more, try to get your predo to us before 10.00pm on a Friday night for a Saturday game, OK?!!

We will promise to:
A) keep a running points total in order – permanently visible for inspection by all members
B) Maintain details of each entrant, match by match. Again permanently visible
C) Moderator or other person in charge cannot enter himself/herself, so as to be a perfectly fair referee in this! (daib0 will overlook this just to end of season as an experiment; hopefully some else will take over for next season).

We update after every qualifying game, such as the imaginary example below:

Scores as at (date):

1 - Gragsy 13 pts
(5+3+1+4)

2 – Big boy 11 points
(1+1+4+5)

3 – little john – 10 pts
(3+2+0+5)

4 – Onion – 9 pts
(2+1+4+2)

Etc. etc.

But - at end of season you need to have to have entered at least 66.6% (only 2 out of 3) of the games that are included so as to be ranked in the final table of positions. This so it remains interesting for everyone, and doesn't tail off ... but please don't worry about missing an occasional game. But of course, the more games you predict from our weekend league games, the more points you gain and so the higher placing in the 'table'!

End of season winners have honorary prizes (!) of
“Royals Rendezvous - Formula 1871 Prediction Champions” 2010 – 2011
Gold Medal – (name)
Silver Medal – (name)
Bronze Medal – (name)

Indeed we’ll somehow find a way to record the Gold Medal, Silver Medal and Bronze medal for posterity in a specific place in this web page as we progress to other seasons – the Royals Rendezvous ‘Hall of Fame’ !!!

OK, spread the word everyone – reasonably we need AT LEAST a dozen in to make this worthwhile!!!

Believe we've got so far:
Basingstokeroyal
hearn161
Royal_Stoney
Maffff
Tronno
Foxxinator

(but please re-confirm your intention of participation!). And let's have many, many more in - it's free, fun, and you can prove how much you estimate our team and show off your knowledge!!

THE WEEKEND GAMES THAT ARE INCLUDED
(but don't worry, I will remind everyone on the usual Predictions and Match Threads as the match gets near) :
Reading v Boro (Sat 5th March)
Reading v Preston (Sat 12th March) THIS MATCH NOW POSTPONED (due to FA Cup Quarter Finals)
Barnsley v Reading (Sat 19th March)
Reading v Portsmouth (Sat 2nd April)
Forest v Reading (Sat 9th April)
Reading v Leicester (Sat 16th April)
Leeds v Reading (Fri 22nd April – yes, Friday and Monday are counted as ‘weekend’ games if they're in place of the normal Saturday game!)
Coventry v Reading (Sat 30th April)
Reading v Derby (Sat 7th May)

Please come on board, lads!
Nine games then – plenty of points available!
Good luck to all!!!

I've taken a look at many other already working schemes, some are better than others, but this one should be quite decent. However in the close season, after our new experience, please do come back with suggestions if you have further good ideas on how we might improve things for next season!

Great! We start the competition for the Middlesborough next weekend - prediction thread to go up Wednesday, OK!

I'll take your predos at nearly mid-night on Friday night, so if you post on Wednesday but want to change score next day or during Friday day time, don't worry - it can be safely done!
