READING v PORTSMOUTH Well, back to business! Another big game coming up. With the financial chaos at Portsmouth in the close season, many predicted another relegation worry for Pompey. And indeed at the start of the season they suffered on field. However, of late they’ve been doing really good things, and incredible as it seems, they’re only three points behind ourselves. This is due to an amazing run of 7 victories and 2 draws in the last 10 games. Ah, and they’ve only let in 3 goals in this period, so goals might well be thin on the ground at the Madejski Stadium. On the other hand, Reading are pushing for a play-off place with force, so will go at the Portsmouth defence. Who will emerge victorious – the Reading attack or the Portsmouth defence? Well, taking all this into account and armed with a bit of my usual optimism, I’d go for a slim victory: Reading 1 Portsmouth 0 But as organizer I’m not in the “Formula 1871 Prediction Competition”, so it’s over to you for your scores please! Of course, for newcomers on here, you’re most welcome to give a prediction for the game although you may not be in the competition league itself. So over for your predos ... and see note underneath! Daib0 -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- This game yes COUNTS towards the new competition for members “FORMULA 1871 – Predictions of Reading games” !! Participating members should preferably leave their predictions here on this very thread (or possibly by PM to daib0). BY FRIDAY NIGHT PLEASE, NOT ON MATCH-DAY if at all possible! Please make it clear, like Reading x other team x, and not just simply 3-2 or 1-4 so I know exactly which team is which in your goal tally! Good luck to all … ! REMINDER OF INCLUDED GAMES COMING UP: (these will have the usual Predictions and Match Threads before each game) : Reading v Portsmouth (Sat 2nd April) Forest v Reading (Sat 9th April) Reading v Leicester (Sat 16th April) Leeds v Reading (Fri 22nd April – yes, Friday is counted as a ‘weekend’ game!) Coventry v Reading (Sat 30th April) Reading v Derby (Sat 7th May) Please keep it up, lads! Only SIX games then – but still plenty of points available! Good luck to all!!! |

I think this will be a very tough game for us, but as the ever optimist, I'm going for: Reading 2 0 Portsmouth.

You're not going to include Preston match? That's a shame |

0-1 ----------------------- sorry to have to edit Maffff, I take that as Reading 0 Portsmouth 1, OK??! It's for these doubts I ask you all to write the teams into the prediction! Edited by daib0, 28 Mar 2011, 05:24 PM.

re. Preston game: No Foxx - we thought about it, but decided not, and this is why (2 reasons) - The majority of mid-week games, when they come for Reading, are on Tuesdays. Remember that on Fridays and Saturdays most of the normal match-thread comments get written (obviously), and some also appear on Sunday. And Sunday also sees some kind of match reports cum press snippets etc. so it really only leaves Monday available for a prediction thread - which is OK, and they do appear, but when it's tied down for a little competition there's simply too little time to carry it out. We'd probably get veiled complaints of not giving sufficient opportunities to get the predos in! Then, statistically, most members tend to come on here Thursday to Saturday - Mon to Wed are always less active. So some members in the Prediction competition would surely miss out, and that's a shame. better to have the prediction league where most numbers actually see the thread! This season is like a 'prototype' but I hope it'll be even better received next time. If it becomes a regular feature for the whole of next season, we'd probably have at least 30 games that would qualify as weekend league games, so there'd be plenty of possibilities to amass a nice points total! |

Portsmouth will be tough opposition, they're really on a roll at the moment. But if we are serious contenders for a play off spot, these are the tests we have to pass. I'm going for a 2-1 win to Reading, but if the score was reversed, it wouldn't surprise me. |

Reading 1 Pompey 1 Tough to call, both teams look to be on a decent run and we rarely seem to beat Portsmouth so this is a fairly optimistic prediction. Edited by FrankMurphy, 29 Mar 2011, 12:31 AM.

Got your inbox message but would reply here. Say you put the prediction thread up in the following week, on the Thursday or Friday. That would give ample time for anyone to predict the outcome? Just a thought, I really like the prediction game we've got going and it's a shame we miss out on some of the games. |
