Not exactly football pure and pure, but these photos surely shaped the lives of all at the club and the local population generally.
The majority are from the sixties, and some just before that era.
Photos are roughly in newest first, oldest last order – more or less!
It's true I dedicate this to Suffolk, William & Hayes - their interest and knowledge of the town is without question, but it's equally interesting for anyone who takes a pride in what Reading used to be like, and where it has come from!

Remember the mod scene well !!The mods used the Hony Bear up london Street and the clubs in Minster street, now sadly all gone.I used to hang out with the "Rockers"though only 14,we used the Cafe Ole in London Road and Raffels in Caversham road. Many punch ups in cavy rd and the Bowling ally. The best era was yet to come though, three years later, can we get any of 1967?

I've always got my eyes open, but actually very difficult to find photos from about 1955 to 1970, don't know why...

If you dredged the Thames where the bowling ally used to be you would find many a scooter dragged up ;) One night we left the ally and walked up Caversham road to go to Raffels and just as we approached the bridge by the firestation we were jumped on by a mod gang.Being only 14 I ran straight through the lot of them and they let me go but duffed the others up.I later found out they let me go because I was too young to hit!Couldnt see that happening now,.Later on each one of that gang paid the price, one by one, hence a lot of scooters in the Thames.Hope Jacks dad wasnt one of them :D
