Now all you cyclists, tell me,is there a different law for you in Reading. When you jump the lights and just miss the cars that are coming across you do you think it's funny. When you ride in the middle of the inside lane up the A33cant you see the 15ft cycle path that cost a few grand if you cared to look to your left? Another thing, those flickering lights that you got on your head like Beachy Head lighthouse,do you know that they half blind motorists coming the other way.Reading seem to have the worse cyclists in the universe, perhaps it's time the government made them pay say 50quid a year road tax.I know motorist sometime p@@s you off and they can be just as annoying to you,but come on,obey the law.

I'm all for reasoned debate, but when an article like this appears, I have to say it makes my blood boil. This is the first time anything on this forum has actually made me angry and it's going to be a while before I calm down. |

Well, as much as I never wish to upset anyone with my views, I take nothing back. I've seen with my own eyes how inconsiderate cyclists can be. I am not saying there are not inconsiderate car drivers, but I've had cyclists pull straight out in front of me, on more than one occasion, then have the nerve to stick two fingers up when I sound the car horn to warn them! |

Well I'll tell why I'm angry, last summer The wife and I were turning into Castle street from the Butts when a cyclist ran the red light and almost hit the front of the car I shouted at him so he followed me up Castle Street .I stopped got out of the car ready for a punch up,he was years younger then me,but he went the other side and tried to break the wing mirror off.I make no apologies for this post because I'm still bloody angry.

There again, I can only say that both sides are usually inconsiderate - if only ... all cyclists were like TSB and if only ... cars took consideration as to passing space, blind bends etc. I usually car it, but do indeed have a bike and sometimes cycle (though not with the cello on the back!). I'd still say though, that Britain is safer than the south of Europe in this respect. I'd like to relay a story about an ex-RFC player I know from early 60s (but sorry, he doesn't want to be named) who some three years ago was driving along Portman Rd/Wigmore Lane and came to a pedestrian crossing. A young cyclist was sort of there, though he didn't know whether the cyclist was trying to cross or not. So he inched past, and the cyclist forcibly THREW his bike at the car and denting it, so obviously the man (the ex-RFC) stopped his car to ask what that was all about - but got a broken jaw in no time at all. I mean to say that madness can occur to anyone, it's not restricted to what type of transport you use. The 'pressures' of modern life seem such that when something blows it happens when people feel free (and not controlled by work, family or whatever) - and moving about/transport/journey is supposedly one of those freer moments for us. So that's why there is such a lot of road rage in all proportions in my opinion. "Everyone else drives worse than me" but the other says says the same about US too! So who drives or cycles bad then? Sometime has to!!! |

I don't think any of us non cyclists would say that all cyclists are bad, or all drivers are good, but you can only go by your own experiences. |

Cyclists need to stay off the pavements. ....and learn to stop at red lights. Remember this? http://www.getreading.co.uk/news/s/2002262_brave_joels_smiles_nearer_to_recovery |

I drive down peppard rd [hill] to caversham ,there is a cycle lane on nearside , not a problem ,but you still have to watch for the idiots that think the centre of the road is one as well, i see 5 very week 745 am down the hill over the lights red/orange or green, dont give a toss, not to bothered if they hit my car it can be replaced , but a child on there way to school would not stand a chance, and their arrogance is beyond belief , and i would add most are in their forties and not young men . But as said there is good and bad ,so not really a thread we will all agree on . |

I think cyclists should have number plates and be registered like cars personally. |

Right, Back and calm. i can totally sympathise with those who've experienced the idiot Cyclists out there. I see them myself everyday, when I'm on my bike and in my car. The road is a dangerous place for everyone, particularly those of us on two wheels. If some want to take stupid risks, that's there lookout. As for putting number plates on cycles? Really? It's like any other thing in this country. Idots get away with things because there simply aren't enough boys in blue on the streets. |

At least that would provide some accountability. Anonymity is one of the things that allow some cyclists the freedom to have the 'who gives a ****' mentality that a lot have. As a driver I feel I'm courteous to cyclists, but it doesn't seem to go both ways. I see where you're coming from and I respect that, but there are too many idiots out there, but the worst part is that the idiots aren't consistent with their idiocy. |
