Now all you cyclists, tell me,is there a different law for you in Reading. When you jump the lights and just miss the cars that are coming across you do you think it's funny. When you ride in the middle of the inside lane up the A33cant you see the 15ft cycle path that cost a few grand if you cared to look to your left? Another thing, those flickering lights that you got on your head like Beachy Head lighthouse,do you know that they half blind motorists coming the other way.Reading seem to have the worse cyclists in the universe, perhaps it's time the government made them pay say 50quid a year road tax.I know motorist sometime p@@s you off and they can be just as annoying to you,but come on,obey the law.

What annoys me about cyclists is that some of them don't give any consideration for their own safety. A few months ago a cyclist turned right at a cross roads I was pulling out of. It was pitch black, he was wearing black and had no lights. I missed him by inches and it would have been my fault had I hit him, but I literally didn't see him. I don't get the mentality of not making yourself visible.
This is the sort of post that makes me glow :D

Walk this way or get on your bike in Slough

Healthy smoothies and bike maintenance advice were dished out on Thursday at an event to promote safer cycling and the benefits of walking.

Activities took place in Slough Town Square in the High Street during the afternoon.

They included a 60-second bike challenge.

The event was organised by Slough Borough Council.

Cyclist Anthony Hilson death: Victoria McClure guilty

A woman has been convicted of causing a cyclist's death on a road in Berkshire. Cyclist Anthony Hilson, 46, was struck by a car driven by Victoria McClure, 38, on the A4 Bath Road at Twyford in September.

Prosecutors claimed McClure, of Chilton Drive, Charvil, may have been distracted by using a satellite navigation system. A jury at Reading Crown Court unanimously found her guilty of causing death by dangerous driving.

Mr Hilson, who police described as an experienced cyclist, was a married man with two children.

Baljit Ubhey, chief crown prosecutor, said: "It may have been that her use of her satellite navigation system caused her to be distracted from driving. This was a very sad case, the consequences of which have had a terrible impact on many lives. No matter what the sentence is, we acknowledge that nothing can make up for the loss of Mr Hilson."

McClure is due to be sentenced on 30 August.

Did you not reed Daib0's earleir quote? No one pays "Road Tax". The roads are paid out of Tax payers money, which Cyclists pay aswell. Car owners pay tax as their cars release emmisions.

I can understand anger at Cyclists who jump red lights and take uneccesary risks, such as the one Cribsie encountered. I encounter idiott cyclists while on my bike!

Mike, you need to cool it a bit though mate. Every time you blanketly slag off all Cyclists, it makes my blood boil as some of us do pay attention and obey the rules of the road. Do you condone what that woman did?

I take the utmoast care on the road for one reason; I'm the one at most risk, not you in your two tonne box of steel. Be warned, if any motorist drives aggressively near me, you better not stop because I'll tear your head off!

Let's keep Hayes favourite thread up-to-date:

Research project aims to get older people cycling

Academics have been awarded £1.2m to come up with ideas to get more older people in the UK back on their bikes. Cycling accounts for 1% of journeys in the UK for over-65s. In the Netherlands the figure is 23% and in Germany, 9%, according to Reading University. The town is part of a three-year project, along with Oxford, Southampton and Bristol.

The teams will see if new technology, like electric bikes, or more cycle lanes would have an impact.

Reading University said recent studies had shown that regular physical exercise was one of the key factors in maintaining, or even improving, cognitive function in older age.

The scheme is being funded from a £1.2m award from three research councils. Researchers hope their findings will be adopted by policymakers in the future.
