Barcelona v Real Madrid: Xavi hopes to inflict further blow

Barcelona midfielder Xavi thinks Real Madrid will still be in the title race even if they lose at the Nou Camp. Tito Vilanova's side have won each of their six league matches and a victory on Sunday could move them 11 points ahead of the Spanish champions.

But Xavi, 32, insists even that will not kill off Jose Mourinho's men.
"It would be a big blow to morale for Madrid. It would a very important advantage but we could still lose those points," Spain international Xavi said. "A win would give us a lot of confidence because it's our age-old rivals, and would make the league more difficult for them. They are three very important points but the league will not be decided in this match. Regardless of the points difference anything can happen."

Barcelona captain Carles Puyol will miss the game after dislocating his left elbow. Gerard Pique is doubtful with a foot injury so Alex Song looks likely to deputise in the centre of defence.

Real Madrid manager Mourinho must decide whether to give midfielder Kaka his first league start of the season. The Brazilian has found himself out of the first-team but made a surprise start against Ajax in midweek.

Barcelona centre-back Puyol, 34, was taken to hospital after Barcelona's 2-0 Champions League Group G win against Benfica on Tuesday after landing awkwardly and left the field on a stretcher. The club expect the Spain international to be out for eight weeks.

Madrid lie eight points behind the Catalan side after six matches in La Liga this season having lost to Sevilla and Getafe, as well as drawing against Valencia. Former Liverpool man Xabi Alonso feels his side will need to attack at the Nou Camp.
"It would be good to win and bad to lose, that's obvious. We know the (points) disadvantage that we have and we want a victory. We know the importance of the game and the significance of El Clasico and we will go there to win," he said.
