Background on Chapter One
Log-In
Chapter One, simply put, is simply a start of the RP. Major characters are starting to be established. Of course, there are revolutionary thoughts going on in Russia, as the Former Prime Minister, Peter Stolypin, was assassinated at an opera house in 1911 - before the eyes of the Tsar and his two eldest daughters. The current Prime Minister, at this time, is Vladimir Kokovtsov, who is very pro-Tsar and is extremely conservative. The Duma, at this time, is currently in its Third Session. It is largely dominated by the wealthy, though there are more middle-class elements involved. The major keepers of law and order and those that manage to curb the activity of the Leftists Revolutionaries are the Okhranka - a secret police force that utilizes any means of violence necessary. In general, times are pretty good for the noble classes, though not so hot for the members of the peasantry, though a few improvements have since been made due to some of the reforms of Stolypin, which has created a slightly larger middle class. The peasants are becoming increasingly more disaffected, though they still are not entirely against the Tsar.

The Aristocracy - The Aristocracy of Russia is where the power, wealth and prestige are centered. Being an aristocrat ensures the privileged of the Empire with fine titles, vacations, parties and money beyond ones imagination. It is also believed that the Russian Nobility are considered to be among the wealthiest in the world. The wealth that the Russian Nobility are bestowed with is in stark contrast to much of the Russian populace, which is mired in poverty, unrest and inequality. Still, much of the Russian Aristocracy could care less, often adopting a 'let them eat cake' attitude towards the peasantry. The Aristocracy also tend to be deeply conservative, many of them believing that their money is divinely bestowed upon them, and that the people of Russia cannot be trusted to make good decisions that would save their country - therefore the Tsar and his counselors are the ones that must do so. They also keep wizards along as company and their designated 'doctors' when they feel that medicine may have failed them - though medicine isn't the sole reason why they are kept around...

The Middle-Class - while the socioeconomic schism of Imperial Russia runs deep, there exists a very small middle class, consisting of politicians, merchants, some dancers and such. These are those that work hard to make their keep, though they never quite starve, they're never quite secure in their finances either. Still, compared to the peasants of Russia, they still lead a relatively comfortable existence. Politically, they tend to be more moderate than the poor, revolutionaries and aristocrats, though this is not to say that there are more liberal leanings there - they believe that the Russian Peasantry can vote, but are not fond of the radicals that exist 'among the fringe.'

The Peasantry - The peasants of Russia are very, very poor. Several decades before, they would have been just one notch from the bottom, as serfs would have been below even them, but with the abolition of serfdom in the 1860s, the poor are all in there together. They are devout in their faith, always following God and the Saints, and up until recently, many trusted their Tsar with unwavering faith. It was sadly the Bloody Sunday Massacre that severed their trust in him, and allowed for them to lend an ear to the Socialists. They are completely, blissfully unaware of the wizards that exist in the world.

The Wizardry - The Wizards of Russia are deeply intertwined with the Orthodoxy. They consist of anything from monks to mere parishioners, though the only difference between them and those people is that they can use a diverse array of powers. They are usually under the employ of the Orthodox church (though they are often barred from using their powers), or particular Russian Aristocrats who buy them for their magical services. They can often do anything from healing to divination to prophecy, though the latter often tends to be extremely rare (and usually extremely coveted). With the diversity of their powers also comes the diversity of their natures - some merely are trying to make their way in the world, while others wish to run their world. The starets Grigori Efimovich, better known as Rasputin, is one of these.

The Revolutionaries - The Revolutionaries of Russia range in lifestyles - from prisoners, to convicts, to exiles, to students, all of them have one aim - to see the Aristocracy abolished and to see Socialism reign as the new order for Russia. The 'leader' of the modern Bolshevik movement is a man known as Vladimir Ilyich Lenin, who is considerably more radical in his beliefs and is well-known, admired and feared. In general, some advocate a peaceful revolution, while others prefer a violent revolution - all designed to avenge the deaths of those that Nicholas 'The Bloody' has ordered. Many of them are apathetic to the Wizards, though some tend to be a bit more hostile towards them, particularly because of the intervention of the dangerous Rasputin.
