Hey guys, it's been a while. So I've written the 18th chapter for Life As We Know It, and it is on my LJ page rather than with the rest of the story, and that is where the rest of the chapters will be posted from now on. Here's the link: http://med14.livejournal.com/8325.html I'll probably add them to ff.net once it's complete. |

Thanks Mahtra!!! OMG rookieD is back! And she is back with a new story and all the emotions that she can bring. I can't believe it, I'm so happy! reading the FF I kept thinking 'omg she is back', I had to re-read it twice because I couldn't focus. I was too excited. Usually I hate the 6th of january, last day of the holydays in Italy, but this year, with the presents of MD14 (thanks for the heads up here, otherwise I would have missed it and I'm so in love with that story) and rookieD, I can't complain. |

I'm sorry the reviewers have caused problems, but I do hope you continue to add your stories to ff.net, even if you've posted them on LJ first, since it's easy to have all the chapters together and on our favorites list there. ![]() Great chapter, btw.

Not sure if this is the case, but if it's guest reviews causing problems, I think there's a way to prevent any guest reviews. I'd have to go look, but I think it's possible. |

I totally agree: It was a wonderful chapter! And I understand why MD14 and others want to avoid the nasty reviewer. Though I personally am too stubborn to change my behavior for that person. Who is this person to have such an influence on us? Honestly, to spent one's free time reading things the person doesn't even like and then to review in such a ridiculous way. How pathetic one can be, if this is the only way he/she can feel good about him/herself? So I encourage you all to continue posting on ff.net. For many newbies that is the obvious place to look if you search for fanfics. And otherwise new McSwarek fans will be confused by the overwhelming number of Gail/Holly-fics. Now a question from someone who has no LJ experience whatsoever: How does fanfic posting there work? Do you have a RB-group on LJ? How can I figure out who is publishing over there? |

I think you can only switch to moderating guest reviews. So that you can decide which reviews will be published and which will not. Years ago there used to be the function to allow only signed reviews. Nowadays you have to proof that you get an overwhelming number of bully-reviews to get that function enabled (as far as I know). |

there are a few groups (communities), but i don't think there's one that people use with any kind of consistency to announce their fics. at least i haven't found one yet. i think most people (myself included) just post their stories in their personal journals and then people find it there on their own. you can add people as friends and then their posts show up on your friends list, which makes things simpler, but this only works if you have your own journal, of course. otherwise you have to go check the individual journals yourself. there IS an rss feed option, but please don't ask me how that works. just get an lj and follow ALL the people.

I would add that there are a small number of authors, some of which are members here too, who publish real person fics that are set so that only friends can read them. (that's mostly to keep it out of the view of the actors and/or their real life significant others so that no feelings are hurt) |

I haven't used LJ in a while (then again, I've barely had any time to write) but I do think that more and more people are moving over to AO3 and LJ because of the frustrations with FF.net. In some respects I get why you can no longer disable anonymous reviews (and it makes my life easier when I want to shoot a quick review and then go back later to give a real one) but some of the anonymous reviews get frustrating. And yes, you can delete them but it is still a "punch in the gut" when you open your email, all excited about a review, and find a nasty review. Also, on ff.net lately people have been trolling and reporting the dumbest things. ff.net really needs to work on some of the rules and needs to really look into stories before just removing them. I know a few people who have had stories removed because they were new authors and didn't understand the rating system. That being said, I'm going to add and pin a list of LJ authors that are on this board. If you publish on LJ and want to share your LJ handle, just write your handle and one of the moderators will add your name to the list. Also, if other authors want to (I kinda have no say...I'm not gonna be posting probably for a while), we can create a community for the authors where we can post stories. First of all I would like to thank you all for taking the time and explaining me how LJ works! I personally don't understand why ff.net opened itself up for anonymous reviews. It is like asking for bullies to come trolling there. I would have thought that they would rather introduce an option to restrict reviews instead of taking it away. So you are completely right, they need to change some things. However, I can understand the reporting somewhat. I personally prefer to point out the issues to the writer her/himself, but fanfics can get pretty twisted. I used to read a lot of Twilight fics and as weird as it sounds, Fifty Shades of Grey (Master of the Universe) was not so misogonistic compared to some of the other storylines. Consequently a lot of underaged readers took some very unhealthy relationship views from it. So I can understand why they don't allow smut etc for as long as they don't have an age control. After a huge wave of reports a lot of authors moved to The Writer's Coffee Shop Library. But it seems like that platform is out of fashion nowadays. I only found one RB fic there And I agree, getting a negative review feels like a punch in the gut when you don't expect them. But I recently found out, once you have come to terms with the fact that you will get one nasty comment here and there, it takes the bite out of it and can become pretty amusing. The last time I got one I had to laugh out loud. I hope for all the other writers to reach the same point. Megan, can I say I love this story and I would love this to become a reality on the show at the end of S5 or start of S6. It's very Sam and Andy. It's really cute and uniquely them. You really captured McSwarek in this.

I find that what site you read your fanfic on depends on the fandom. For some fandoms, AO3 is the place to go for the *best* quality. Personally I find that FF.net is the place for the RB fandom. There is certainly not the same amount of fics at AO3 as there is at FF.net. What I like about FF.net is that its culture is one that encourages the leaving of reviews. As a ff writer, this is what I love most about posting a fic. The reviews just make me feel like I'm on cloud 9. While with AO3 the culture is more geared toward the "kudos" feature. There have been so many *excellent* AO3 fics that I've read that would have like 2 or 3 comments, but like 50 "kudos". As a writer, I'd rather a comment than a kudo, personally. LJ for me, is just a pain in the rear end. I couldn't figure it out when it was first the thing to do, and I still can't. Maybe it's the old lady in me? lol But I am seeing people posting fics on tumblr, which is weirdly interesting to me. Edited by StarryDreamer, Jan 17 2014, 08:33 PM.

I thinks cyber bullies are the scum of the earth. Kids have committed suicide because of cyber bullying. They're pathetic and dangerous people and we should be able to prosecute them - bullying is illegal! |
