Ok, after a marathon of all 5 seasons I'm ready to make a list of things that I liked, things that I really liked and things that I didn't understand and hope someone will help me with. I hope it won't get boring but mostly, as usual, I hope that I won't offend anyone...I'm just writing what I'm thinking at the moment...even though I would like to make a premise. For every show I ever watched I always had the tendency to identify myself with a female character. Of course I always have my favorite male character or couple, but mostly I tend to focus on one female character that I like and go from there. In this particular case it's Andy McNally, so don't get mad at me if you sense a certain fondness on my part for this character. We have an experience in common so for this one I really couldn't help myself and I tend to be on her side. That said... Season 1 This season has ups and downs for me. Episodes that I really enjoyed and episodes that I can't seem to be able to re-watch (like the one where they go undercover as prostitutes). But the episode that I love and hate at the same time is number 8. I really think the writers trow us a curve ball with this one because if things went like I wanted to Sam and Andy would have been together since that moment. I love the way Andy tries to talk to Sam about what happened when she went to his apartment. I think she wants to understand how he feels about it and where he stands, but he doesn't give her a chance and by the end of the episode she is pissed off and sure that getting involved with Swarek is definitely not a good idea. So fishing cabin with Luke it is! She is hurt by his behavior and he is acting that way because he thinks she just agreed to go with Luke as if nothing happened. If only they had talked. Season 2 I love the scene where Sam offers to buy something in the vending machine for Andy before Oliver empties it. I love the response she gives him. So unsure and taken aback by this new side of him. It's a little scene in a season with lot to talk about but I don't know it stuck with me. Season 3 Of course I'm not gonna talk about the McSwarek scenes in this season because I loved them all. And I already talked about the break up scene in my other post. However, I really hate to admit it but I really liked the Nick/Andy scenes at the end of this season. Even though you could see right away what the writers wanted to explore with this two characters, it was really good to see Andy getting over Sam like that. I know that a lot of you would like to kill me now but if there is one thing that I hate to see in a tv show (and I watch a lot of those) is a woman pining over a guy that just broke up with her. I'm okay to see someone pine over someone else because they don't have the courage to say what they are feeling, but I'm a very pride woman and I don't like to see a woman on tv that cries episode after episode for a guy that just treated her...well, not so well. The scenes that I liked the most was the one in which Andy didn't wait for Sam to arrest the priest like he told her on the radio. And the one where she tells him that wanting to know if she is ok is not his job anymore. I like the stubbornness Andy shows here and I really like Sam's reaction to that because, even later in the bar, you can see that he's starting to doubt his decision to leave her. I love the way he watches her with Nick and you know that a part of his mind is thinking that she's confiding with him now meanwhile he doesn't even get to know an important thing that happened to her at work that day. Season 4 I hated the first episodes in which Andy looks like a fool because she wants Sam back. I don't really like her dorky side, at least not when its showing so much. Instead the scene that I love absolutely the most is the one at the end of episode 7 when Nick and Andy are leaving the station laughing like crazy and Sam watches them. I love it because in the beginning of the same episode we see Sam asking Andy how she is and, in totally Andy style, she tells him every little details of her life in about 3 seconds. In those few minutes she gets him to share a smoothie (Sam really isn't one for smoothie and Marlo confirms it later on), she tells him about a cold that she had, about her new found allergy and then she leaves him speechless and almost intrigued when she suggests to him that his girlfriend is the one that should know him better than anyone. At the end of same episode Sam watches her leave laughing happily with Nick and then he goes to Marlo and when they ask about each other day they both have the same answer for one another. Fine. Sam realize that she is just like him and doesn't really talks that much and you can see that he wants more, he wants someone that probes him for information and doesn't just stop at fine. So this time he's the one offering something more without being asked because he wants Marlo to know him, but when he asks again how was her day she gives him the same flat answer. You can see that Sam is not too pleased. I really really love this scene because I think that it is Sam's turning point, the point where he realize that no one will know him like Andy and nobody will care so much about him to the point of driving him mad question after question. Season 5 This season was hard for me because I really like happy and lighthearted Andy and with all things Duncan in this one I didn't see much of that. I like the storyline but I would have liked to see Andy happy just like Sam. So anyway this time I actually have two question for this season and I hope someone will help me understand: The key thing: Why do you think Andy didn't take the spare key to Sam's apartment when offered? I think it was because the last time she had Sam's key was when he decided to leave her the truck's key only to ask to get them back the first time he decided to talk to her after breaking up with her. I think she doesn't want anything to give back to him when and if something like that happens again. Chloe talked about superstition instead, so I don't know what to think but for me that's what came to mind. My second question about season 5 is this: Do you think they did it already by episode 5? They only kiss in episode 4 and I think that episode 5 is shortly after and goes on until episode 6. First I thought they did already because of the way Andy teases him about his habit of speaking Spanish in those moments, but as I was watching the episode again I noticed that he's scolding her with his eyes and I thought that he was feeling frustrated because they haven't done it yet. Then at the end of episode 6, while still in the truck, he asks her “where to next?” and she rises her eyebrow suggestively and the next scene is of them in bed together. So what do you think? Again I apologize for the long post and yet here I am prolonging it more that this by doing so

Great new thread! It's always interesting to get reactions from someone who started late and binge watched. About Andy and the keys, I've puzzled over that many times myself. It really threw me at first, and I'm still not sure exactly what was going on with her. I think it probably doesn't boil down to a single easy answer. But I see it mainly as you do as some sort of residual fear of jinxing things. I think she still doesn't fully understand why things didn't work the first time, and why Sam freaked and backed out of it when he hit a rough patch emotionally. So, like you said, she doesn't want him to casually offer something that she invests with all sorts of meaning that may or may not actually be there. I think by that point, she was more secure that he was really committed this time, but not all the way there in truly believing in it. It's the same thing that later made her ask for verbal reassurance from Sam that their "honeymoon phase" wasn't going to be disrupted by Marlo. So even though Sam was pretty demonstrative by Sam standards by saying it was the key to his heart, he still said it in a half joking way and backtracked to saying it was about convenience the minute she didn't jump on taking it. I think she's sort of raised the bar it how definite he's going to have to be about the milestones of them being back together progressing into something permanent before she believes it's really happening. That's her version of being gun shy. Sam I'm sure has his own that we'll probably see once they hit their first big relationship crisis after he was able to open up about his past without losing her. About when they first had sex after getting back together, I don't think it happened until 5.06 when Sam opened up. I think there was plenty of sexual tension and flirting, but I think after Andy asked for some space in 5.02, I think they settled into taking things slowly knowing that they had a lot of damage to repair. |

Ok so I've been rewatching each episode since the announcement of rb cancellation, just got to 4x8 and watching frank describe his relationship with noelle with Sam asking questions which we know have nothing to do with marlo, but I couldn't help notice Sam's expressions, and I can't believe I only just realised now after like the 20th time of watching it, it's like what frank was describing is exact Y how Sam felt with Andy. I love and hate season 4, love because the way Andy and Sam's relationship literally goes back to the beginning and they have new found respect for each other but I hate it for the fact they had Sam drag out his relationship with marlo for so long, when it's clear actually from the beguinning he's clearly not over Andy, don't get me started on the amount of hugs marlo and Sam get as opposed to the one or two andy and Sam get... http://youtu.be/konSWur8Tg4 Here's a link to the clip I'm talking about |

I think at that point Sam realised that what he has/had with M wasn't what he thought it was/wanted it to be. To me them making it so clear this early is why I'm confused about why he stayed with her for so long. One could argue that they (S+M) didn't see each other enough to have an honest conversation about that relationship, but honestly that'd just be the lazy way out and the fact that M turned out to be pregnant makes it clear that they saw each other enough to do the deed up until 4x11. So M must've been really good at not letting her being off the meds and in a manic episode being visible to Sam. Which makes the fact that Andy, who never spent much time with her after 4x5, see her and know exactly what's up let all the other cops look like total amateurs. I mean by how they presented it on screen, M must've been well enough to fool everyone at work and sneaky enough to get all those files smuggled out. I mean there were boxes upon boxes at her house. She couldn't just have accumulated those in a few days. I mean her being at work would include her doing actual policing like on the street, which means no access to the files for the day. So she spend her off time in the evidence locker to get that stuff about Kevin Ford and simultaneaously managed to follow him and be well enough to do her actual job? And noone stumbled upon her doing all that gathering of Information? I mean she clearly used police ressouces for that and I doubt that regular Police officers are able to look job related stuff up from home without anyone actually realizing that they're doing it. To me that storyline is one of the biggest letdowns where RB is concerned where the logical thought process was really just left out in order to get that one storyline from A to B, on order to get to where these characters were taken in S5/6. And then we had that corruption storyline which IMO just made all those failures they had with the bipolar storyline even clearer. From my own experience with my sister dealing with bipolar disorder and my own depression it is easy to mislead people about what you're going through. I mean I see my sister all the time, but we don't talk about the stuff that we're dealing with all the time. So it is easy to not let how you really feel/behave when you don't spend hours with them, but as soon as you're spending a certain amount of time with a set group of people they're noticing certain changes in your behaviour etc. which is why M clearly being at work in order to obtain those information and thus spending time with people in a confined space (a car) and noone noticing something going on and if they did, not confronting her about it makes no sense. I doubt she would've been able to ride with Gail and her not saying anything. I mean in 4x9 it was clear that Sam and Oliver realised that something was up, but neither followed that up. I mean Sam not confronting his girlfriend is one thing, but he wasn't the only one who noticed her off behaviour... Edited by CHH, Nov 6 2015, 06:18 AM.
