On ABCs website it said returning 2011. does this differentiate from summer 2011? |

I don't think so. I think that they wrote 2011 so that if another show bombs they can possibly start airing Rookie Blue earlier. |

I don't know what to hope for. The LA Times had the more accurate ratings info for last week. The finale ended up ranking #47 for the week and with a total audience of 4.87 million. So while I'd love to not have to wait, having them on during a season with tougher first-run competing shows plus any sport other than baseball, which has so many games it doesn't pull as much, makes me nervous they might get canceled, at least by ABC. |

Ya me too! I would love for an early return but if their fighting chance with ratings is better during the summer, then it is worth the wait. In the meantime maybe some re-runs will gather some more fans. |

I think they are in for a up hill battle anyway you look at it whether they return next summer or sooner. People are going to expect them to deliver this year, 2010 was their sophomore year now ABC/Global expect that they will continue their trend and most assuredly pick up more. The fans are also more demanding knowing how disappointed some were in the finale a lot of people want resolution. So there is a lot more riding for 2011.As unpopular as it may seem i prefer an earlier return yes they could crumble against other shows but it also keeps the viewer more refreshed to wait until June may seem ideal but viewers are fickle they may forget altogether about this show which is even worse. |

I would rather they wait for the summer just because I don't know how well it can compete with the other fall shows. That being said, I would love if ABC/Global has a "one time" open slot and airs one episode of season 2 and then hypes up the rest of season 2. If they would do that, I think that they would gain more viewers and then could possibly make it a fall season show... |

I noticed that a lot of fans were seriously disappointed with the finale. I am sure they are coming up with some stellar plans to grab us again. |

RB for the summer show did just fine. But look at the dynamics of ratings with return of football! Suffered not only rating of Rookie Blue, but also ratings of well-known shows with a long-standing support of audience. Bosses on TV would always prefer to ax canadian show. Look at the difference in advertising RB and american shows, which showed in the summer! I understand that each country maintains its production, but its reduces chances of RB. So it's better be in the summer TV. Maybe not so late as this year - in May or June. |

Exactly. I hope it stays as a summer show - even though it means longer time until we get more episodes, I think it has a much better chance at getting renewed again in the summer. The only problem is that ABC doesn't currently have any scripted "summer shows" (that I can think of - am I missing one, anyone?) so it's kind of a risk for them to keep Rookie Blue going. I hope that even if ABC is dumb and doesn't have the foresight to continue it past S2 that at least Global will? Us US fans will have step it up next June and bring the ratings! |

Well, I'm not convince RB is "foreign enough" to bother advertisers one bit. The bigger preference for advertisers is that they prefer scripted to reality trash, even if reality scores big ratings. Also in RB's favor is its ridiculously low production costs. Like, people could hardly believe the budget they were able to manage, at least for s1. ABC had two other new scripted summer shows in addition to RB, The Gates and Scoundrels. They just were ratings duds, despite having actors that are much more well known to US audiences. So I'd say the future looks decent for RB on ABC, and that a summer run starting earlier seems like the best bet for s2. Here's some info about the pilots ABC and other nets are looking at to shape programming for the 2011/2012 season, as tweeted by tapped in Nikki Finke's peeps at Deadline Hollywood. Seems like these are being considered to eventually replace Desperate Housewives and Brothers and Sisters: ABC Lands Darren Star Dramedy In One Of Paul Lee's First Major Development Moves http://goo.gl/fb/o4GUt |

This is exactly what I'm talking about. The Gates and Scoundrels both have excellent promotion. RB - not so much. In fact, almost none. I hope this will change next year. Thanks for the link! Very interesting reading. |

Scoundrels had a lot of promotions, but the show wasn't that good. Rookie Blue is DEFINITELY better

I'm kind of glad RB wasn't their only scripted show. But - of the three, RB is the only one with a renewal... I disagree about the advertisers, though - while I doubt people care that RB is foreign, advertisers prefer whatever show is getting the best ratings, reality or scripted. The reason trashy reality shows are still around is because they sell so well with advertisers because people love them. But also, the majority of ad sales come from fall shows, not summer, which is why networks don't pump a lot of resources into summer shows. Anyway - I agree that RB in the summer on ABC is perfect, because they get decent ratings for a summer show, don't have too much major competition (fall shows, sports, etc), and it's a fairly light show. I won't say "fluffy" show, but it's not as hard core as some of the fall dramas, you know what I mean? |

Ratings dominate, BUT given equal ratings, a LOT of brands prefer scripted because reality is so cheesy/sleezy. The reason there's so many reality shows is because they're cheaper to produce and thus more profitable for the same ad revenues, not becaue advertisers want them. You're definitely right about fall vs. summer though because summer audiences are so much smaller. But basically, we're on the same page about when RB can best flourish, at least for now. |

It looks like Rookie Blue can't compete with these shows. But if they bring it back in January for mid-season, than they'll be competing with the same shows they were competing with this year. Because all the current shows will be on break, but American idol comes back in January, that's the only new-season show I can think of at the moment. |

I think some other returning shows don't start until later, like Parks & Recreation. But I can't think of other ratings giants other than Idol right now. 24 used to start in January, but that's done. Hmm. |

Actually, if RB gets moved to regular season instead of summer, it's highly unlikely they'll get the prime 9pm Thursday spot right off the bat. That's the biggest ad revenue slot in the whole schedule. If there's a doubt RB can hold up against anything other than summer competition, they won't get that until doubt is removed. |
