I just checked my email and my order and I didn't get that! You should try calling their customer service - it could have been a glitch in their system.

Or it could be a phishing scam. Don't give any credit card info to that sender if they ask you to re-order.

Rookie Blue: The Complete 1st Season Blu-ray

It's interesting to read a review from a non-fanatical fan that actually takes the time to analyze it thoroughly. Can't say I agree with all of it, but this part mostly seems pretty dead on to me:

The best thing about Rookie Blue is actually the interplay between the more seasoned cops and their new charges. The first season has some great moments as the basically tag-along rookies are assigned to ride with experienced cops, and the culture shock is palpable. These elements in fact play much better and much more realistically than either the rookies' individual exploits (which are often completely laughable) or even the 20-something trials and tribulations they each go through as the season progresses. The show would actually do better to focus more on the "odd couple" relationships between the rookies and the seasoned pros, as that is where this series really finds a convincingly unique voice and tone.

ETA: This is it for extra features?? :uhh:  I was hoping there would be more. But I guess when they were filming season 1 they didn't expect to be nearly such a bit hit. But I thought there would at least be some Deleted Scenes and Bloopers.

-Making of Featurettes (SD; 10:03) are broken into three short chapters, A New Breed of Blue, Meet the Rookies of 15 Division and Rookie Training, of which the third, first person on-location segment is the most entertaining and informative. The first two are standard EPK fare.

-The Stryker Report: Behind the Scenes on Rookie Blue (SD; 24:15). Marty Flanagan, a bit player (who seems to be a Canadian internet journalist), takes us on a guided tour of Rookie Blue, including lots of behind the scenes sequences. It's fun in a sort of goofy-geeky way.

-Season 1 Trailer (SD; 1:57)
-Season 2 On Set Teaser (SD; 3:05)

Has anyone else pre-ordered their DVD with Amazon and then recently received an email saying that your order was cancelled because "Although we'd expected to be able to send this item to you, we've since found it won't be released after all. "?
I didn't have that problem, contact customer service.

"Rookie Blue" follows in the footsteps of "Flashpoint" as a Canadian produced drama picked up for cheap by a major U.S. broadcast network for a summer run with a decent level of success. Bringing a Canadian product to a mass North American audience can be tricky as if it´s "too Canadian," it could be harder for American viewers to identify with the content. Unfortunately, being too "Canadian" can be a detriment to acquiring an audience in Canada as well because our televisions are so deeply saturated with American content that anything produced in Canada is going to pale in comparison to a similar American production. Canadians can smell a cheap Canadian production coming from a mile away and they feel no obligation to support an inferior product just because it is locally produced.

So with that said, it is important for Canadian productions to provide something distinct from their American counterparts. "Canadian Idol" was never as grand and spectacular as "American Idol." Instead it took the format that was proven and that people were familiar with and executed it on a smaller, but unique and satisfying level.

"Rookie Blue" is able strike the balance well between delivering what audiences have come to expect from U.S. cop shows while not having to go over the top with special effects and expensive location shoots. It is able to accomplish this by not focusing on car chases and explosions, and instead making the characters and their interactions the focus of the program. The DVD packaging describes "Rookie Blue" as "Grey´s Anatomy with guns," but it might be more accurate to say it´s more like the kids from Dawson´s Creek decided to ditch Capeside to enter the police academy.

The show follows the first year on the job of five new recruits to the Metro Police, beginning with their first day on the job. This first day is especially tough for Andy McNally, a new recruit with a Joey Potter-esque innocence but with the street sense to make up for it. Played by Missy Peregrym (remember "Stick It?"), McNally is the only lead character who is given any real depth throughout the 13 episode season and is clearly intended to be the star of the show. The supporting characters who interact with McNally the most such as Sam Swarek (Ben Bass) turn out to be more memorable than the other four "lead" rookies.

"Rookie Blue" is set in Toronto, but with the exception of a couple references to Southern Ontario cities, it could take place in any major city in North America. Not "too Canadian," check. Apart from a few establishing shots that give away that the show is shot in and set in Toronto, the series is shot very tight and close so as not to give away the location. This style of shooting also lessens the desire for any big special effect explosions or the like.

The season flows well from episode to episode. If you want to be able to catch up quickly before Season 2 begins in June, here are a few key episodes you can watch.

Did the writer actually watch all of the episodes? As most of the fans have said - the flow from episode to episode is an issue - especially between 6 and 7!

It's obvious that the reviewer is not in teams or other preferences games. So he takes the event as how he sees it, not trying to find hidden meanings or explain characters behavior. If everything taken like this, then there is no problem with consistency.

Forget about teams - in episode 6 he offers her a ride and helps her and then in the next episode she throws a fit about riding with him. You don't go from "good" to "throwing a fit" right away.

Flow is even lacking in 7 to 8.
Andy leaves Sam's place in a hurry after a near hookups and he is disappointed. Then they go days without speaking and he shows up to work with coffee expecting her to be done with Luke?

This is just an example of a team vision.
So she was mad at her boyfriend and wanted something nice to end a horrible day. Sam was kind to her the whole day and she decided - why not take a little more of his kindness? And a few days later she is annoyed with him because he was strict and demanding.

Anyone in this situation would have expected anything, but just not the news about "love tour" on fishing. Andy sends signals that are obviously saying that her relationship with her boyfriend falling apart - in the worst moment for her she goes to another man. And she oh-so-honest and truthful, so certainly will not live peacefully until will tell everything to the said boyfriend, right?

I think the comment was meant relative to cop shows that are heavily procedural and don't have much of continuing character arc at all.

Does anyone know if the DVD has the episode commentaries? We are still missing episodes 2-5 on this site and I know I'd love to read them.

Hi guys. Been behind the scenes for a while and decided to pop up. Is anyone else here from Canada and got to see the new season preview at the beginning of the DVD? I don't think Global aired that one.

I'm assuming that it is the same one as the US version (with Sam and Oliver in the squad car where Sam is talking - or flirting - with Andy) and it has not been aired on Global or ABC as of yet. I'm trying to see if I can upload it, but my DVD drive is having issues right now.
