© TV Ratings: Strong 'So You Think You Can Dance' premiere carries FOX on Thursday
Not bad for being repeats. The new ones will hopefully draw bigger ratings

Moderator's Note: This begins with comments on the first night ABC ran reruns of s1. As a moderator, when I break a thread, I can only select posts from a single page at a time. So sometimes the break isn't that clean if I make a decision to split after more than a page of posts in what I think should be a new topic accumulate.

Ratings on Zap2it from last night (June 16):

CBS: "The Mentalist" rerun (8.1 million, 5.3/9)
ABC: "Rookie Blue" rerun (3.5 million, 2.2/4)
NBC: "Love Bites" (2.3 million, 1.6/3)

18-49 leader: "The Mentalist" (1.4)

I have to say that this looks really good! Rookie Blue was a rerun and got more viewers than Love Bites which will be running against each other every week.

This is a pretty good result for a repeat.
Let's hope that premiere episodes will get above that at least another million.

If they do as well as last year, the ratings should more than double when the new eps start. The big issue is whether they can do that at 10pm. Also, USA has a new series Suits running opposite them that's getting some good buzz on twitter.

USA is a cable channel, so it has a different audience than ABC. Synopsis of first episodes sound very impressive, so let's hope if not to increase, then at least to hold on rating of last year.

Rookie Blue premiered to a 1.6 adults 18-49 rating and 6.8 million viewers, that’s down versus last year’s premiere on 6/24/10 that averaged a 1.9 adults 18-49 rating and 7.2 million viewers, but well up versus the two season one finale on 9/9/10 which scored a 1.2 adults 18-49 rating and 4.9 million viewers.

Those are really good numbers considering 'Suits' premiered last night and has been getting a decent amount of hype.

Not to mention the fact that show changed its time slot.

Time slot is probably biggest thing, but Suits has been getting a lot of buzz. FX also debuted the wacky comedy Wilfred starring Elijah Woods opposite RB last night.

More numbers details from TVbytheNumbers & comparisons beyond RB's last-year debut:
Quote:

At 10pm, ABC’s sophomore season premiere of Rookie Blue ranked #1 in its time slot in Adults 18-49 and Adults 25-54. The ABC summer drama beat NBC’s original summer drama (Love Bites) in the hour by 3.9 million viewers, by 100% in Adults 18-49 and by 133% in Adults 25-54.

-Despite moving into a later time period (shifting from 9pm to 10pm) with lower overall TV usage, Rookie Blue drew the series largest audience since mid-August last year in viewers and since early-August in young adults – since 8/19/10 and 8/5/10, respectively. In addition, Rookie Blue hit a series-high with Women 18-34.

-Rookie Blue produced strong year-over-year gains for ABC in the hour with viewers (+16%) and young adults (+23%), topping original programming on the year-ago night. In fact, Rookie Blue posted ABC’s best summer numbers in the hour since August 2008 – since 8/7/08.

I saw a tweet that said their ratings take a week to come out.

That is a little ridiculous - they had the Combat Hospital ratings out already and episode 1 aired on Tuesday.

BACK ON THE BEAT: ROOKIE BLUE RETURNS WITH 1.4 MILLION LOYAL FANS

Quote:

TORONTO, June 24, 2011 /CNW/ - Last night, Global's smash hit original drama Rookie Blue proved it's still packing heat as the second season premiere booked 1.4 million viewers (2+, national). Winning its time-slot nationally and in the key Adults 18-49 demo, the highly-anticipated debut delivered a solid performance as the #1 drama program of the night.

Viewers who missed last night's premiere episode can catch up on GlobalTV.com or on their Global Video App, available from the App Store on iPhone, iPod touch and iPad, or on demand through cable and satellite providers across the country.

Next week on Rookie Blue ("Might Have Been" - Thursday, June 30 at 10pm ET/PT), Andy and Gail go undercover as waitresses at a club known for frequent drug use, but get more than they bargained for when their fellow waitress turns out to be involved with a vicious criminal. Meanwhile, Traci wrestles with feelings for her old flame, Detective Barber; Dov tries to weather the storm when a young woman files a complaint against him; and Andy opens up to Sam about her commitment to Luke. Joris Jarsky (Cra$h and Burn), Alan Van Sprang (King) and Polly Shannon (Lie With Me) guest star.

GO Rookie Blue! SO glad to see that the premiere in the US garnered 7.2 million viewers! That is great #s for a summer drama, esp broadcast cable! I hope we get a season 3 renewal as early as we got world that ABC was renewing it for Season 3. Sad part is that ABC should wake up & realize that Rookie Blue is getting BETTER ratings in the summer v some of their returning shows for the fall. TV is void of a lot of good cop drama, since Law & Order went off the air, only leaving SVU. I am hopeful that this season will gain more viewers by word of mouth and the promos. :)

Actually, 7.2 was last year's premiere number. This year was 6.8, which isn't a huge drop for a later time slot.

And if anything, even after the cancellation of two great cops shows, Detroit 1-8-7 and The Chicago Code, there are still too many cop shows in the regular season, IMO. That actually hurts RB a little, but they have a great approach to making it unique.

I agree with you LAwoman that it is that unique approach that makes Rookie blue so much more entertaining than the run of the mill cop shows.I think the fact that RB held steady to Season1 ratings is an indication that this show does have a following and that by no means was last year a fluke. The sophomore year or 2nd season is generally the harshest its when a show really has to shine and to me all indications are good for RB last night episode had a great pace it for sure left me wanting more. I think the show has a great opportunity to garner more fans this year.
