ROOKIE BLUE “Hearts And Sparks” Review

Quote:

Even though this storyline was extremely minor, essentially bookending the episode, it was, for me, the most successful attempt to create believable conflict. Probably because Callaghan and his old flame Rasati have genuine chemistry: her no-nonsense attitude and his old-timey manners are surprisingly suited to one another. Both the actors and the writers have done a fine job in barely any time at all showcasing this. I particularly loved her balloon popping hospital nursing methods, which made her out to be fun, and not the villainous ‘other’ seen in so many other tellings of the triangle love affair.

I partially agree with this part. Gail's response WAS pretty narcissistic, even if she was genuinely shaken by what she learned about Chris's childhood.

Gail’s story was obviously convoluted. But it almost worked. Finding out that Chris’ mother was abusive was a really effective moment. Alas, it was ruined by her narcissistic reaction: “is he dating me because I’m crazy like his mom?” Oh boo hoo. Firstly, Gail is not crazy. Narcissistic and haughty, yes, but crazy? I wish. Her character is one with a lot of potential, and I wish that if she was supposed to be the unhinged member of the team she would, y’know, actually be unhinged, instead of needy, which is unfortunately often the case.

Really? I read it as that Gail is more self conscious and low self-esteemed than anything else, but maybe that's just me because I'm like that...

I agree with you LAWoman that she is both. Gail puts on the front of being brash but i think that is to deal with the insecurities that are underneath that exterior. We will see a different side to Gail when Momma Peck comes into the show, then we will see the insecure Gail come out.
It is What it is!!

Loved this part especially:

So Luke gave up a promotion to stay with Jo only to have her take the same promotion and leave him. Ouch! That means he's been nursing a broken heart and a wounded ego for a long time now. Was Andy just a bandaid?

Not that he was doing it consciously, but Andy's going to get crushed, nevertheless. I only hope Swarek's around to help her pick up the pieces.

How long do you think Luke's been waiting to hear that Jo regretted her decision? Once she admitted it, it was like the dam broke and all of that underlying passion couldn't be denied.

Andy kinda sucked as a bandaid though, and pure Luke needs a heart transplant not a bandaid....

Rookie Blue Review: Desperate to Believe

Quote:

Luke screwed up, big time and "In Plain View" had him scrambling to cover his tracks.

It's not nice to sleep with a girl and then not return her phone calls. Did Luke really believe he could tell Jo it was all a mistake and move on? He swore to her that he was happy, but how happy can he be if he's having an afternoon quickie with his ex?!?

Or how about when Jo alluded to Andy being the weakest member of the pack? Talk about passive aggressive, but I had no doubt that that's how Jo viewed her.

There were no Sam and Andy scenes, but this wasn't about them. It was about the end of Andy and Luke. My guess is we won't be seeing Sam and Andy together this season. She's got to get over this whole debacle and she doesn't need Sam as her rebound guy. But having him around as a friend would be nice.

ROOKIE BLUE “In Plain View” Review

Quote:

ROOKIE BLUE “In Plain View” Season 2 Episode 6 – Last week was a pretty lacklustre episode of Rookie Blue, so I was delighted when this week’s episode now only picked up the pace, but became a major game changer for the show in terms of shifting relationships, strengthening and disintegrating them, exploring the characters in new ways through the prism of the cases they work on. This was an episode which showcased Rookie Blue at its dramatic finest.

Quote:

I also love that their differences, whilst causing a noticeable rift between them, did not interfere with their more important work. When McNally leaves Callaghan at the end of the episode, she doesn’t blame Rosati with a lame “how could you pick her over me?” demand: she rightfully blames him. Peregrym’s emphasis on the word “found” when she tells him that she returned her engagement ring back to the locked box tells all we need to know about their soured relationship and her own realization of her sadly romantic delusions.

Here's the review from the Houston Examiner's blog:

Rookie Blue Plays with Sight

Excerpt:
Quote:

Rookie Blue’s newest episode, “In Plain View,” exposes secrets that aren't as hidden as they should be. All a character has to do is know how to look for them.

...Andy’s reaction was very realistic, and the scene where she walks out of the motel room was just perfect. How did everyone else feel about the ruin of Luke and Andy? What will be interesting is seeing how long it takes Sam to figure out what happened, and how he will react.

ROOKIE BLUE “The One That Got Away” Review

Quote:

ROOKIE BLUE “The One That Got Away” Season 2 Episode 7 – It was an Andy-centric episode, with hardly a scratch of a subplot to deal with as Andy’s world is still reeling from her revelation last week that Luke cheated on her. This week she’s trying to hide this fact from her friends and colleagues and insists that she and Luke are just giving each other some “space” – a term which immediately raises eyebrows.

Quote:

The show handled this element of emotion really well-it did not dwell in her misery, but rather gave her one of the series’ best cases to throw herself into.

Quote:

And how about that scene between Rosati and Callaghan when he completely shut her down? After being a condescending bitch to Andy earlier in the episode, I figured the writers were going to make her an unsympathetic character, but when Callaghan tells her that he wants nothing to do with her, the way she just hung her head?

Quote:

Because he and Rosati have such easy chemistry, I figured the show would end up Callaghan and Rosati and Swarek with McNally, but now I see that Rosati and McNally are way too good for Callaghan

Rookie Blue deals with aftershocks

Quote:

What was best about that lie is that those closest to Andy figured it out.

It also allowed the writers to lengthen the time between Luke and Andy breaking up and (hopefully) Andy and Sam getting together because Sam gets angry at Andy for defending Luke’s idea even after what he did to her.

There seemed to be some argument over who was "The One That Got Away" on Rookie Blue this week, but there was one character I simply wished would leave: Luke.

Andy couldn't hide her disdain of Jo and I really couldn't blame her, but it did nothing to help her hide what happened between her and Luke from the precinct. Did you see the look on Sam's face when he realized that Jo slept with Luke? It was just after Jo sent Andy out for pizza. If looks could kill, Jo would need life support.

Rookie Blue Review: A Unique Kind of Foreplay

Quote:

On the flip side, it was great to see Sam try and help Andy through her breakup, as a friend. He read her so well that he knew exactly what she needed and he was more than willing to be her literal punching bag.

Although I have to say: to me that looked like their own unique version of foreplay. Anyone else agree?

Rookie Blue goes into lockdown

Quote:

The officers of 15 Division find themselves in quarantine after a suspect that is brought in is diagnosed with a mysterious illness. This forces people to cancel their evening plans, and sadly that means that there wasn’t any footage of Oliver at a Taylor Swift concert. It would have been hilarious. In addition, the cops and detectives are forced to be in close proximity with one another for longer than some may have liked. However, some of the more seasoned officers find this enjoyable, turning it into a poker night.
