So love interest then. It looks like the main reason why he generally cast in the show.
I'm actually can see that things not worked out for Sam and Andy on first attemp. They are both complicated people and for them it would be difficult to adapt to each other. In addition, the ideal boyfriend they've done with Luke, the "bad guy" - Sam. So this new guy might be something unexpected and new. Maybe dangerous. Perhaps with him Sam is really would fight for Andy, and not pining like is case with Luke.

That could be. I get the feeling this kid is more like a mini-Swarek in the making than any of the other rookies. But this info seems like it's basically the same rumor recycled, with the small addition of the news that Sam will be training him.

With all due respect, this source is often not accurate in detail. So even if Sam would be his TO, quite possible that this part will be the least important in Sam story for season 3.
And frankly, I'm not interested in Sam in making. We already have the real thing. Unless they officially make him Sam successor in the show. :puke:

Love interests sometimes last only a couple episodes. I mean Eddie was a Dov love interest, how long did that last? I would say Dex can onto the show as a potential love interest for Traci and that is ending basically.

So HOPEFULLY! if this guy is a love interest it fizzles out fast? Maybe Sam doesn't want to be the rebound so this guy will be the in betweeeeeeeeeen.

OMG! Ever since this tidbit about a new guy was released it just caused more and more confusion  I'm going to go with an optimistic approach to this 1) Sam goes into guns n' gangs and as every has said this is his protege 2) Since we know we get some Andy/Sam action sometime this year maybe they decide to give it a go, people find out Frank separates them..I know not as likely. Something that crossed my mind in the midst of a possible Landy breakup this season what happens to Eric Johnson??????I know he could stay around as the division detective but with this new character and hypothetically new interest what happens to Callaghan?

Luke becomes a minor character who might not be in every episode. He is a homicide detective and there is always some homicide case going on.

Someone posted this comment on fanforum and in light of this rumor I wanted to share:

I was reading an interview done with Missy prior to the beginning of S2. This is her response in regards to her hopes for Andy's future if we were to get another season: "Even if she decides to be with Sam, it’s going to be complicated, its going to be difficult. I think that is the most exciting part of the show though. Our job already has so much stress and I think it affects our personal lives a lot."

I'm glad she said that. Even if she gets together with Sam, it doesn't put an end to the show or the drama. There's still a lot of room to explore within their relationship and things are only bound to get more exciting and interesting.

I am in total agreement with this to me Sam/Andy getting together isn't just about just the physical bonding but the emotional. We know they have intense chemistry so having them come together isn't likely to chase away too many viewers but to me getting constantly sidetracked by another "potential interest" is.There is a lot of guessing as to why Andy is the way she is, what makes her tick and a lot of that lies in her earlier relationship(s) like with her Mom.To me I love to have them explore that and to do it with Sam.
Bottom line I'd like to have them move away from this triangle idea and on to better things.

My main concern is that in a casting call for this character was mentioned "the lead". I don't know how things are in RB, but on other shows they usually have only two lead - male and female. Even if the show has a large cast and it's multi-characters.

There is regular characters - they are involved in all the episodes of the season in small roles.
There is guest stars - they are involved in some episodes of season or in one when if it's a big name.
There is stars - they are involved in all the episodes of the season and considered as the main part of the caste with big roles.

But Missy is definitely a female lead of the show. And judging by casting call they are looking for someone who would be her male equivalent on the show.

If they add a new female character, then no. Or if they give him a male rookie for training to be a detective - Dov or Chris.

Where did you see anything about a the casting call being for "the lead"? I'm the one who grilled the original rumor leaker about the source, and I don't remember that being in his response that it came from the LA acting community via talent agencies.

My theory on the whole thing is that there might have been pressure from ABC to add a young male actor that is better known to US audiences for ratings reasons, and that the creative team hasn't quite figured out what they'll do with him. The casting call is phrased with the most interesting possibilities to get a lot of good actors interested in the part. I have no idea if I'm right, but that has to be a possibility.

In that place where rumor originally appeared. This rumor is completely coincided with what appeared on the E! site, except the "lead", but there they never pay attention to such details.

Gregory and Eric were both in the hit television series in the U.S.A. More major stars you won't find for humble Canadian show without big bucks. And for ABC the most attractive thing about the show - ratio of its popularity and price. They may get additional significant costs for another star, but it doesn't necessarily mean that the ratings will rise. Even more strange to do it in season 3, when show already received its audience and the question is not to make it bigger with risk, but not lose the current one.

I don't know... All of this has meaning only if at the end of Season 2 or early in 3 one of the leading actors leaves the show.

It doesn't make sense for them to have "lead" male actor when they can easily make Sam the lead who is loved by all the audience...I think they are bringing in new Rookies and not just one guy

Yeah and I suppose with a name like Rookie Blue their leads should be rookies.

The new rookie could be a love interest for Andy? Well, maybe he will try to flirt with her but she will not respond...

Oh is that why.I thought that's why they asked Lauren Holly, unless this person is in it for the long haul.I said this previously and I'll just reiterate doesn't matter who it is if it doesn't make sense its not going to fly.I'd rather them expand on the characters they have the audience is already invested in them so lets keep building on that.

My hopes are that Landy are at least done by the end of this season, and maybe this new guy flirts/comes onto Andy but she does not respond in kind.

Perhaps we will get a few scenes with Sam misunderstanding what is going on between Andy and the new guy.

Andy is helping him out because she knows what it's like to be a rookie and Sam misreads this as she is interested in him.

If the new guy is a hot shot perhaps he gets cocky and tells Sam Andy is totally into him.
