Funny/weird RB translations; Place for us foreigners to post the horrible translations that happen all too often with subtitles

So I just finished watching a re-run of Big Nickel on Norwegian TV, needless to say; it was subtitled. And badly at that.

Here are some of the stuff I reacted to other than the fact that half the dialogue was missing =P

The scene about eating on their way to Sudbury:
Original line:
Sam: "You care where?"
Andy: "No, I'm easy."
~shared look~

Subtitles translated back to English:
Sam: "Do you care where?
Andy: "It doesn't matter."
~shared look~

The look makes no sense with the Norwegian lines-.-

Hambulance
Original:
Sam: "There is a problem with my BLT."
Waitress: "Really?"
Sam: "Yeah, I think you better call a Hambulance."

Sub:
Sam: "Miss, there is a problem with my bacon.
Waitress: "Oh?"
Sam: "Yeah, you better call the 'pig team'"

What is a pig team?? And then they use it once more with the; no they fell of a freaking beaver. I kind of wanted to find whoever did the subbing and shake them =P

Can't wait to see if anyone else has any of these XD

Just subtitled luckily! The only voice overs in Norway are kids shows. I think I would have thrown up if they were actually speaking Norwegian =P

Same here, only kids movies/shows are dubbed.

So, ep 1x11 is such a serious one, so there aren't a lot of fun stuff to mis-translate apparently.

The only thing that really differed except for omission of lines was that Oliver calls Dov and Diaz 'The Katzenjammer Kids'
Posted Image
in stead of 'wonder twins' since no Norwegian I know of have ever heard of the wonder twins =P

There was one thing that made me giggle though:

When Dov says "You've got to be kidding." When they see 'the Guardian' the translator wrote it in a way that I would translate like this:

"By golly! Wait a minute."

But that was really the only slightly funny bit =P Hoping for more exciting ones next week ^^

I prefer watch Rookie Blue in original version than in a translated version. In french, they try to stay close but sometimes there is a huge difference. :ermm:

Luckily they don't dub in Norway, I tried watching BTVS in French on my DVD and that was HORRIBLE XP

With subs, there are still the original lines. That's why I think it's fun to watch - because you get to see the stupid and sometimes hilarious errors the translators make ;)

Most of the foreign languages I had training in have flew out the window (German, Spanish, Creole), so I don't have much to contribute in translations.

But, my favorite version of Rookie Blue online is on YouTube with Portuguese Subtitles. My husband laughed at me. But I get the whole thing (put it all in a playlist) with no interruptions. It's awesome. It's also been a bit of a puzzle to figure out what language it is. It was so similiar to Spanish, but with obvious differences. 'Obrigado' for 'thank you' being one of them.

I don't know how the subbers in Norway get hired, apparently not according to their English skills XD

One of the worst I've encountered was something like this:

Original line:
"The heroine saved them all!"

Subtitle translated back:
"The heroin saved them all!"
