I really hope it doesn't get used as a mid-season replacement for something. When that happens, networks tend to rush production and then there's the possibility of it not being as good. Also, I agree with everyone that's stated that it does well as a summer show, but might not do well against the heavy hitting established series.

Maybe ABC will keep an eye on how USA's Psych does - it's being moved to Fall after being a VERY successful summer show, but they're not ordering any additional episodes.

I don't see it being picked up for a S4 as easily if it becomes a regular season show, and it's incredibly unlikely that ABC would order more than the 13 episodes they've been going with so far. Right now, it's probably a cash cow for them - super cheap because it's produced by Global, and they must get a bunch of ad revenue from it because it only runs 44 minutes, and gets decent (by summer standards) ratings. I can't see them changing that formula.

But, who knows! Maybe they'll take a risk, and order more episodes and have it run Jan - summer... then maybe we'd get more McSwarek!
That would mean a whole lot of cold-weather filming this winter, since they're not starting much earlier than last year. Unless they do my idea and cast ABC alumn Sally Fields as Andy's mom, and in order to accommodate a big star, film a story arc in LA. That would be one way to make a last-minute extended order work without having the whole cast turn blue every time they film outdoors. Of course, that would also boost the cost quite a bit.

I think it should stay in the summer but maybe start earlier so the season will have more than 13 episodes.. maybe mid-season is not such a bad idea.

That's a good point and RB definitely has that soapy element from it's Character driven roots.

(As for Glee,I typed Wednesday but what I really meant was Tuesday. Those kinds of mistakes happen to me a lot).
I hope glee stays on tuesday cuz it ain't tuesday it gleeday :)

This is exciting news! I sort of like that RB is a summer show, but I'm all for it in the fall too! Especially if that means more episodes :)
I would just hope that *if* the ratings aren't good in the fall time-slot, that RB can still go back to being a summer show!

They even get residual viewers immediately after BB airs so that helps them out. I just think RB is a show that could thrive during the summer but could very well fall by the wayside when all these shows are returning!

Perhaps that why they are looking for a big name as the new rookie with a probability that he becomes love interest for Andy. In this way they want to attract more audience in the fall?

Maybe? But what male lead would really draw enough attention?

But honestly, the show is pretty soapy to be a fall show. I love it as much as everyone, but there's a cheesiness to it that I think prevents it from being a contender for fall. Maybe if it was on a cable network instead of ABC, but ABC tends to keep their "cheesy" shows as 30 minute comedies, not hour long dramas...

Are you kidding me? ABC is the king of soapy dramas. Desperate Housewives, Grey's Anatomy, Private Practice. Soapy dramas is ABC's wheelhouse. That's exactly why Tassie thought RB would be a good fit for them and pitched it to ABC instead of CBS, which had prior Canadian co-production experience with Flashpoint.

In all honesty, I don't believe that a big name can be critical in ratings change. This only works when around such a name they build the entire show.
So unless they completely change the concept of the show - Andy+rookies+Sam to Andy+new name - it wouldn't work, but only destroy the show.

I am already thinking that there are 5 episodes left => :fear:
Then we have to wait 9 months to know what will happen.
