I have to say I burst out laughing when I saw this question... how AWKWARD would it be to answer that?? and I don't think there's any spoilers in the interview.

There's been a lot of buzz about the heat and chemistry between Sam and Andy. There's also been a lot of buzz surrounding your sex appeal on the show. Were you prepared for that and how does it sit with you?

To be honest with you, I'm not really aware of all that stuff. I get told about it a little bit, but I don't follow it, only because I'm a shyer person so it makes me feel a little bit....I'm very happy that they are so into it, and that obviously we're doing our job. Because that's what people should be doing. They should be getting into the relationships and everything. I think that's the point of it. That's part of what makes it fun.

You just don't want things to go to your head and you want to stay grounded, so keeping a distance from it a little bit helps to keep things objective and keeps your feet on the ground. I always have felt the character is most interesting when it generates from a place that comes from a subjective point of view. When you're working on a character and you develop a character, you want to see the world through his eyes and not necessarily how the world sees him, and certainly how an audience would see him. I think those would be two very different things. So in order to maintain a consistency and integrity, an actor has to limit exposure to interpretation of his character.

I love it when he says he is proud of Would Be Kings. When i mentioned i had seen it to Matt, he told me that Ben rips that show to shreds.

That is a sweet interview with Ben. He is really a thinker which is such a great thing in someone.

Really? As in Ben rips on it or is great in it? I would be really surprised to learn that Ben dumps on Would Be Kings, even if he's a perfectionist who can't help criticizing eveything he's done.

I love that Ben feels frustrated with the same things about Sam as the fans:

What I don't like about him for instance, is the episode where Luke cheats on Andy. What I didn't like about him is that he didn't need to be restrained. I thought that he should just want to pound the living daylights out of Luke. I asked them to put that in the storyline - not that he does that- but that he has to find a way to restrain from doing that. I just felt very strongly that that's how he'd feel - that he would just want to tear him apart. So that I don't like about him. And I wish he would be a little more assertive when it comes to Andy, but I love the fact that he loves what he does and he's good at it.

Maybe he's unhappy that it's so often shown in its truncated version (2 hours instead of 4)? The way bits and pieces were edited out takes away from the overall experience

I have no idea why he would rip it to shreds as he was good in it. Maybe it was the way certain characters were written or a set up of some sort that he though could have been better.

No, he ripped it to shreds is a slang way of saying "he tore it up" or "crushed it" or "hit it out of the park" i.e. He was amazing in the role.

Well, even I needed the full context to be sure because it's unusual slang, and I've lived here all my life.

In the UK if someone rips something to shreds it means they detest it and dont like it so they trash it in every way. So you can see my confusion.

It's used that way here too. But I think he's using slang in an unusual way that derives from snowboarding-speak. They talk about shredding the slopes when they do a hardcore run.

I think this is one time I actually agree with the writers I like how they did it...Sam has no business beating up Luke sure he likes Andy and feels the need to protect her but she needed to deal with this on her own.

Yeah, but I'm not sure Ben was arguing for Sam actually beating Luke to a pulp. I think he just wanted it to be conveyed more that that was his first instinct that he had to struggle mightily against to do what's best for Andy. His head eventually tells him that the last thing she'd want is a big scene, but it's a battle to control himself and do the right thing.
