I know that it happens every once in a while because this board says it is not loading so you hit post again and it posts twice - when this happens, if you realize it - if you can edit and write "double post" or "please delete" it would be really helpful so that when I go in (or LAwoman and Kiren), I can just delete the post right away. Thanks! |

Is it possible to enable the feature where users can delete their posts? Just to make things easier. |

Yeah that would make things easier. I had a lot of double posts the other day. Somehow the board was really slow and I was impatient so I hit the Add Reply button a few times... |

I noticed that and I think I got most of them (except if they were in the video, screencap, or art sections because I still haven't had the time to catch up on those). I don't think there is a way to unlock it for everyone. |

Usually there's a feature that will allow anyone to delete their posts. It's probably just harder to find on some boards than others. Kiren, do you know? |

Kiren is the only one with privileges to change those kind of settings. She created the site, so it's up to her. I'm all for it! |

Actually it's better to not give such rights to all users. It could become really messy. Sometimes it's better to not have such privileges. At some point the users decide to delete their posts and this way affect some other posts after theirs. So deleting posts should be something that only privileged group of people can do. Usually in cases when the site performs slow, I just hit back button, copy my past, load the thread again and check if my post can be seen. If not then I post it. I just hate to generate double posts and additional work for the mods. I think that if someone makes double post, might edit it and report it to the moderators. This way they can be notified and will know to delete the post. P.S: If you really want to give an option for the users to delete their posts, I would suggest to give it to users who have more than some number posts(like 1000 for example). But that might lead to other problems. Like people who generate meaningless posts in Games and so on, so that they can receive such rights. That of course can be solved if the posts in Games/Spam and so on are not taken into count. But all this makes the things more complicated. |

Or maybe the best option would be that one can delete one's posts only until someone else posts afterwards. Usually when we make double posts it's because the browser isn't working right so that would make sense, in my opinion. |

@Nathy your idea is really good, but that would require change in the software code for the site, because I have doubts that it supports this. If it does then yeah it sounds good. Also maybe it's good idea to not be able to delete post when it's quoted from someone else. The problem is that we know why we want this functionality - to delete double post. Not all users know that. And by giving delete option, someone might try to delete a perfectly valid post. You could be surprised what can people do with the rights they have. That's true. For my idea, it popped in my mind because it existed on another forum I was on a while back (can't even remember which forum but I remember we could delete our posts until someone else would post after us) |

Yeah, it might be true. I have more experience with phpbb forums and I know their functions. And as far as I know and remember they don't support such functionality, but that doesn't mean that this site doesn't too. It just has to be checked. Edit: as it appears actually phpbb forums allow such functionality - to delete post if it doesn't have reply. I guess the admins of the forums that I read have disabled this functionality. That would be Kiren. To be honest, I scan almost every post, even if I don't read it so I normally notice the double posts even if someone doesn't write "delete this post". I don't think there have been that many recently, thankfully they seemed to fix the issues we were plagued with over the summer. |
