Hm, I might be wrong, but I thought that Andy didn't want to talk to Luke about her dad, because she was ashamed. I know that it sounds horrible, but that was a fact. Andy wasn't super thrilled that her father is alcoholic. That was her secret and she didn't want to expose it to someone, because that made her feel vulnerable. I mean the whole fact that she was with Luke and not Sam is because she wanted to feel secure. She was afraid of putting herself in the fire and be vulnerable. At least that's how I saw it. Sam was by chance with her and she needed help and well she trusted him, but he wasn't her partner at the time. And some people need some acceptance and ensurance from their loved ones and they think that some might love them less if they have some family problems or whatever. Of course it's stupid, because if someone loves you, they will love you the way you are and will accept you the way you are. Then again it's about the fact how she feels and sees the relationship with Luke. I'm sorry, but I think that Andy tried to control her emotions and get this safe relationship with Luke without giving too much or expecting too much. She didn't put herself fully and she didn't expect Luke to be there either. It was like something good, but more like I want it to be that way and I imagine it to be that way than actually being that way. I agree with @Natalie that Luke supported her in the way he can, the way he expects. I mean look at when Luke was shot - how Andy handled the situation and how Jo handled it. Obviously there was huge difference. A lot of people would prefer Andy's approach, I would prefer the Jo's one. So yeah I do think that they expressed their feelings in totally different way and that's why they weren't fit for each other. And I like that contrast and I've always seen it as how Sam fits with Andy and how Luke fits with Andy, not as how Sam is and how Luke is. @svugirl I know that you dislike Luke and I totally appreciate your opinion. Those were just my 2 cents about how I saw this story. |

Totally agree about Andy being ashamed and understandably so especially since it affected how/when he 'retired' |

Well to be honest I would feel the same way if I was in her position. For me she was really conflicted. That was interesting story early in the first season. On the one hand she has the father - the parent that stuck to her, the one that took care of her while her mother was missing. But at some point the roles get reversed and Andy became the person trying to take care of her father. She loves him and she appreciates everything that he's done for her, but she also shouldn't be his baby sitter. He's a grown up and at some point she will her own life and family and worrying constantly if her father is in danger is getting too much for her. Especially with the job she has. Not to mention that this could influence also her career. On the other hand though, she could ask also herself if she's not part of the reason why he is that way. Maybe all the pressure from the work and the fact that her mother left him made him this way. Who knows? (I'm not saying that she is to blame for, I'm just saying that I see Andy thinking that way, because she is that type of person). She wanted to help him, but she didn't want to allow loosing herself in the process. As for Luke and how he handled the situation - I can't fully blame him. She practically chose Sam (the man that she cheated on him with) over him. He was a bit shocked and surprised and probably hurt by the fact that she doesn't trust him. And well Luke couldn't help her if he didn't know the truth and I'm sensing that he didn't know too much until she opened up to him and that's why he went with her to the clinic. |
