From the one you're describing it sounds like the first one Hawley listed [http://www.fanfiction.net/s/6252969/1/In_Sickness_and_Health by Copper's Mama (Sam, Andy & a cold)] - I had trouble finding it again because the author was originally samcamstargate1 and switched her pen name to Copper's Mama. For those of you looking for some good ones, you should check out her profile - she really got the fanfiction board started last year. |

That's exactly like me, I knew I adored the story and I knew Sam brought soup over for her, but that was it ahah! Looking forward to re-reading it later :) That may be why I couldn't find it, but I've read quite a bit of her work and it's really great! Everyone should definately check her page out! |

No worries! That's what this thread is for. It's sort of gotten side tracked into story recs, but there's another thread for that. This is supposed to be where people can go to get help figuring out stories they read a while back and can't find. There are so many now it's easy to lose track. I was obviously way off base with my first guesses too.

Ugh, why am I always getting in trouble here. lol. Oh well. Anyways, I guess I can copy my posts over there, but if you're looking for a certain kind of fic, and you want to quote someone (the person who found it, for example) about that fic/one found that was related to to it, I just didn't see the point in having the posts everywhere. I mean, cuz when people come here looking for something, and someone posts suggestions, they find even more things they love, like losingcontrol92 did. It's hard to separate the two. For example, if I ask for fics with proposals in them & Hawley, for instance, recommends some, then if I want to comment on that or another fic like it that I found through that fic, then it makes it difficult to keep up with each other's comments if they're in another thread. And when you read other people's comments and recommendations, it helps you to know if that's what you're looking for or not. Like how Hawley put a brief description beside the names when she first made recommendations for the sappy stuff I asked for. Those descriptions have helped me a lot in narrowing down what to read first, etc....b/c of what I was looking for. I mean, to me, it all goes hand in hand. You ask what you're looking for, someone finds it & something like it, & you comment on it and/or one you found like it, etc. And then other people see your comment and discover the story too b/c of your post. I'm not mad or anything, I'm just curious how you can easily separate the two without causing more chaos in trying to hunt down comments to replies (then you'd have to copy & paste to another thread to quote someone) and recommendations for the same type of fic. I mean there's not a ton of difference in hunting for a fic & recommendations, especially when we're all here in this writer's forum to share our love of these stories. All I'm saying is that it would be difficult to separate all these thoughts into two threads constantly, especially when it's already difficult to communicate through multiple threads. Plus, we all already know to go to this thread. Again, I'm not mad. I'm just curious on how it would be done without a lot of frustration. Edited by svugirl, Oct 24 2011, 07:00 PM.

It is hard to separate the two. The other section I'm pretty sure is Rookie Blue Fanfiction. Don't bother copying over your posts, it just becomes more confusing. The point was just that this section was meant specifically for questions about finding a specific fiction that you already read, not the wonderful advice of which fictions to look at. We're all guilty of posting in the wrong section. As for how to quote - what I would do is start your post in the other section with something like "Blank pointed out this fiction, these are similar/by the same author and are also great". |

I agree with svugirl, I think it's easier to gather everything into one thread. And I didn't know there was a dedicated one to just list some specific fics This thread's title is vague enough, I'm not under the impression we got off topic.Edit: woops, posted a second too late but I maintain my words :) Edited by Nathy, Oct 24 2011, 07:05 PM.

I understand that, but I still don't see how it's gonna be easy to separate the two. I know that as a moderator, you wanna keep things organized, and I completely respect that. But I also was head moderator and administrator on a board one time, so I completely get where you're coming from, it's just that I also know at some point, with fangirls on a couple fanboard, relaxed organization on certain threads is important. And the only reason I say that is b/c this isn't a tech support forum, where these types of questions go here, these go here, and these go here. It's a board with women of different ages trying to have as good of a conversation as you can with minutes and/or days between posts when talking to someone...many of who have no contact with the others except through this board. I understand that it's important to find a balance of strong organization and relaxed organization on this board, especially to keep it somewhat sane. But when things feel too much on the strong side and not enough on the relaxed side, it makes it feel really difficult just to enjoy sharing things with one another, b/c you have to go and find the exact spot to put it, which may be a completely different spot than from where you first said something about it. I will fully admit to being a large part of the live thread chaos, but I also didn't make as large of an effort with that only because it is hiatus. If it wasn't hiatus, I wouldn't have gone that far with it. So, I started the laughing thread, which is a place for us to laugh and talk about whatever, and just goof off. Are all of the posts gonna be a joke or something absolutely hilarious? No, because that wasn't my intention with that thread. It's a hangout thread, to hang out, laugh together, and have a good time, because other than the Anything thread, there's not really a place to do that. And the Anything thread isn't really a goof off thread. I don't wanna hijack this thread either with my replies about this, but I do feel it's important to say this because I think that a few of the others, especially the ones obsessed with fanfic, would probably agree that it's hard to separate the two. Plus this thread has already been established, it's not a new thread, so it makes it even harder to change. And I agree with Nathy, it is a little vague anyway, especially because it only started as someone asking a question. But, the way I look at it is this.....if we begin all these type comments (in reply to others) in the recommendations thread, or the one you mentioned, then when someone is looking for a certain fic/type of fic, then if they go to the recommendations thread to ask for a certain one/a fic of that type, then it would be sort of "off-topic" based on the suggestion that this thread is for looking for certain fics only. Because the word certain is vague....it can be a specific fic or a type of fic. Does that make sense? I hope I'm making sense, I'm trying. lol Edited by svugirl, Oct 24 2011, 07:33 PM.

I'm an admin on a soccer forum so I also know where the mods stand. It's always hard to find the right balance between being too strict and too relaxed. I think this board has managed to find it and that's what matters. It shouldn't become one thing more than the other. I think for this Can't find a fanfic thread, we should just leave it as it is. Unless someone would complain in the future, of course. And I agree with what you said about the live thread. If it hadn't been the last episode before the 9-month break, I wouldn't have gotten that far either. Edited by Nathy, Oct 24 2011, 07:41 PM.

I totally get where you are coming from - you think you're obsessed with fanfiction, during the break between seasons one and two I think I read every single fanfiction (except for my own) at least four times. We are leaving the thread as is for now with the request that if you have an author or a story that you love, if you can try to remember to post it in the other thread instead of this one. |

OK, here's the deal. I like to be a very laid back moderator, and I think twice before any gentle comments about things getting OT. You're totally fine with how you post on the board in general. Totally fine. That other, older thread is much more general place to discuss what fics you like, etc. But it's getting hardly any posts, probably because it hasn't been on the Active Topics list for a long time. Why do we need two topics you might ask? Well, it actually might be a drag for a person asking about a specific fic, especially if that person doesn't come to the board every day, and maybe have pages of replies that have nothing to do with the question. Make sense? At any rate, this is not a big deal as far as I'm concerned. DEFINITELY, don't go back & copy things. That's never necessary when one of the Mods makes a suggestion. That's way to anal for me.

I really do appreciate your moderating style, and that your comments are gentle. I guess it just gets a little frustrating when things need to be moved after they've already been there. But I'm sure you understand that. I mean, I can start making "recommendations" in the other thread, but like you said, it hasn't been active, so I guess it just seemed odd to sort of move everybody's discussions. Do we need to start leaving the majority of the recommendations & comments in the other thread? Like when we read something we found in this thread or something by the same author, and wanna share it. If we need to move things....about the copying....I'd do it one post though, so don't worry. Like a few quote boxes. Edited by svugirl, Oct 24 2011, 10:39 PM.

No, it's totally not necessary to move anything. I see that you already revived the other thread. Now that it's hit the Active Topics list, most of the action will migrate there and then this one can just exist for people to get specific questions asked. Some of the rec posts that got caught in the middle might possibly take a little effort to go back and find, I guess. That's my fault for not saying something sooner, which I didn't because I didn't want to be a naggy mod. But I think it will all work out fine.
