I was answering some reviews I got for my story on FF and I was just wondering if it's a common thing to answer and thank everyone in person through a PM or if it's more of a thing to put thanks in the authors notes? |

I don't post of fanfic.net, but I tend to thank everyone by screenname in an author's note in my next chapter. My daughter reads on fanfic.net all the time and she says it varies by author. You can do whatever you feel comfortable with. |

I like to thank every single one in a PM, but I know that most don't. I think most writers just reply if the review had something really special in it/questions they'd like to answer, and then just give general thanks for reviews and such in A/Ns. I just like to thank those who actually take the time to tell me what they think, and sometimes I get lucky and we have a small dialogue about the story in turn making me think more about my story and therefore improve as a writer ;) Do what you feel the most comfortable with. Replying to every single review can take quite some time =P |

Where do you post? I'm very curious about your 250+ chapter actually... Okay, so thanking everybody is not a weird thing to do than? I just want to show everybody I appreciate their reviews. |

I respond to every review because I feel that they took the time out to write something so I should thank them - to the point that there are some people who don't sign in when they submit there review and I still PM them to thank them if I know the screen name. I also feel that thanking everyone in the author's note just gets to be annoying - you get excited that a new chapter has "X" amount of words only to realize that half of it is taken up by the author's note. The only time I thank someone in the author's note is if someone guesses what is going to happen next correctly and I made some comment at the end of the previous chapter about "guess what comes next", if they caught a mistake, or if they gave me an idea that I am going to use. |

Cythy, I told agree that if you have a sentence long note to say to each person then that should be said in a PM. I tend to do a general thank you and just list their names and may occasionally address a question if I think other people would be interested in the answer. I totally admire anyone who replies to each individual person who reviews. It shows a lot of respect. It might even inspire me to do better in the future. I do PM people if someone says something really nice. I've just been posting for so long that some people just say "Great update" or "More soon" or "Please update soon" and I wouldn't know what to say.I've been posting at least once a week for three years and the thank you's could end up taking so much time I'd never have time to write. *wink* SoWritten...the only other tv couple I've gone nuts over is a soap couple that I've followed since 1999. I discovered messageboards through them (after discovering mvids and clips on youtube) back in 2008. Those messageboards have fanfic sections where you actually post your story on them and they archive them for you if you want. I post to two messageboards and one dedicated fanfic board. I've read stories on fanfic.net but never posted on it as of yet. I'd be happy to PM you a link if you want to my stories. |

I like to PM as many reviews as I can. Sometimes people make comments on specific parts that I think need a little extra attention, or they ask questions and I can give them answers without spilling everything to everyone. I'm a big hinter. I can't help myself :) And sometimes those PM's turn in to great conversations. They're fun. |

Sometimes (actually, most of the time) it is just a simple "thanks for the review" just to show that I appreciate that they took the time to review. |

For sure! I haven't had one in a while but during the off season last year I had a great conversation with someone from just responding to the review both on Rookie Blue and Flashpoint. It was entertaining and I think I convinced both people to watch the other show by the end of the conversations. |

Some of the peeps who review my stories, I'm already good friends with and we "talk" all the time. The other people would probably wonder why I am PMing them since I haven't in the last three years. LOL What do you say to the people who are negative or who never seem satisfied? |

I'd tell them I'd do my best, but I'm not a pro and write purely for my enjoyment. (Or to keep me of the streets as I usually put it )

I think I'd just thank them for reviewing and tell them to shove it. (LMAO, kidding...). I'd probably say hope you enjoy the future chapters or something along those lines. Or just say thanks and not make a comment after. |

Depends on the review. If they are negative in a constructive way, I thank them for reviewing and their constructive criticism. If it is negative with no positive I ignore the review. If it is downright nasty and has happened more than once, I actually block them from reviewing. |

Great advice. I tend to want to defend myself but I know that won't do any good so I don't say anything.

UGH. TIMED OUT. -- I can see that, you obviously want to defend yourself and your writing, but when they leave a negative review, I doubt they're expecting any kind of positive feedback from you. |
