well Traci said she had Leo at 16, and he turned 7 in S2, so she would be 23/24

Andy is 28. In the first season (1.05) Andy says that her mother left her 14 yrs ago, and then in one of Tassie's interviews she said that Andy's mother left when she was 12. So in 1.05 she was 26 then at the end of season 2 apparently 1/12 to 2 yrs passed, so... 27-28.

Been a while since this topic was brought up - at the beginning of season 3 Gail is 27 --> "it's been 5 years" + "I was 22"

Dov in S1 was 24, so now he would be around 27 as well.

The real question is Andy - and from all the info we're getting, it seems like they don't even know - in season 1 she said not seeing her mother in 14 years...then this season Missy keeps saying "12 years"

But if the rooks are 25/26 they got the Traci timeline wrong. And aren't they a bit old? I mean, here they stay the academy around 17/18 and finish 4 years later. At least that's what I understood...

In Toronto/Ontario, you don't need a university/college degree to apply to police foundations (which in itself is a college program-- Toronto's Seneca College lists it as a 2 year program). That being said, every cop I've ever spoken to always says that you are more likely to get accepted in to a police force with an undergraduate degree in addition to police foundations. They all say that with the degree it compliments your abilities later on while applying for other jobs in the force. One specifically said that he thought people that studied auto mechanics would be the best prepared because they deal a lot with the physics and body make up of a car on a day to day basis. He said that someone with an auto mechanic degree would be snatched up really quickly and placed in a great position in the police force. He also said that it's important to have a "back up degree" because not everyone passes the exams for police foundations and the specific forces (ie. the psych test). He also said the least "attractive" people on paper are the people who have criminology degrees because everyone has a criminology degree and it doesn't make you "stand out" from the pack.

Anyway, in a round about way to answer the initial question, most (if not all) of the rookies and TO's would have completed either a 3 year or 4 year program (2 years if they went to college rather than university). Tack on 2 years of police foundations and you'd have yourself getting into a police force at the earliest 20 or 21 years of age (without college and only police foundations) or 23/24 with college degree and police foundations degree).

The rookies are all different ages. Traci is probably the youngest. Leo is around 7 and she had him in either 9th or 10th grade (in 1.08 she talks about how many years she spent trying to avoid the fallout). I would assume that Leo is 8 this season...making Traci somewhere around 24 at this point.

that's really funny because Traci is the youngest of the rookies, when in fact Enuka is the oldest of the actors playing rookies :D

That's super interesting about the mechanic background being an asset, I never thought of that but it makes a lot of sense. The criminology thing is funny because I'm a sociology major and I'll likely be specializing in criminology. I definitely do not want to be a cop, but it's still good to know that I'd be "unattractive" on paper. :haha: I have met a lot of people in my program who want to be cops and I can completely understand why it wouldn't be an asset because it's so common.

Though, from the cops I know in Edmonton, a lot of them went straight to the training then the force and don't have post-secondary degrees. I think Dov is the only person we know went to college for sure. But I agree that they are all too old now to have started training right out of high school.

I know this is about the rookies, but I also wonder about Sam's age, especially in relation to the other TOs like Ollie. I've always assumed they've known each other for a long time but being in the academy together doesn't mean they are similar in age. I really don't care about the Sam/Andy age difference, I actually think it fits for their characters, but I still hope it comes up at some point. Even for Andy to make a joke about it or something. I would just love that to explored in canon.

@snafu I would bet that Elaine Peck wouldn't let her kids out into the workforce without every conceivable advantage. Gail probably has a college degree as well.

@snafu Another reason why they value the post secondary education, is in part that it allows them to easily weed out "quality" candidates. If they have more experience, then they can grant them entry, especially with the Toronto area where they hire minority groups and people with second languages first. (English speaking, white male? Good luck. Make sure you have lots of community service and post secondary!)

Jerry was 39 - He said he was a Leo whos bday is end July - end August. He clearly died in the Fall, so he was 39. Traci is 24 (had Leo at 17 and he is 7)
Bigger age difference than Sam/Andy
