How to post fanfics?; The trouble in posting a fanfic and being a computer noob!

Hey guys! I need a little help (since this site is sprawling with computer geniuses). I have just started working on a fic. So far it's about 2 chapters long and will definitely be longer. I'm just wondering what are the procedures in publishing a fan fic. The site fanfiction.net has given some guidelines and rules but it doesn't really answer my question.

So first of all, I want my fic to betaed. Do I have to send a copy of my work to the person via email? I know there's a way to do it on the site itself but i'm just curious as to whether this is the same method used by all or just me?

Secondly, whats with the difference between the "Story" and "DocX" format? Which do you guys prefer?

I have a macbook and I use pages. Do I need to download open office because I didn't see it on the list. what would you guys suggest?

P.s. I'm not all of a computer noob. I do have some basic computer skills but not fascinating :D

Hey,

I personally just use friends for betaing my stories, not sure how the betaing on ffnet works as I haven't tried it myself.

The docx format, as I understand it is for exchanging documents with other users on the site. When you do want to publish a story you need to upload it in the story format.

I don't use mac, but you could try uploading the story in doc manager (it won't get published until you go and fix everything under "new story") Then you can see if it works or not.

I am a beta reader and I have been on ff.net for a few years and still cannot figure out their beta system so I wouldn't worry about it. As a beta reader, I send the writer my email address and then they send me the document.

As for the mac issue, I'm sure someone on here who has a mac has posted on ff.net but if no one replies to that particular issue, I would search on google or email the "support" on ff.net to ask them.

Just a heads up, if you are not already a member on ff.net, it is either 24 or 48 hours (I don't remember which because it has been such a long time) after you become a member before you can start to post.

Hmmmm, I post from my mac and make sure that I save the file with an .doc extension, this allows me to upload. I always upload as story actually.

I always email the people I ask to beta...

Hey thanks a lot. I am already a member at ff.net and have been for almost two months but I had finals, Christmas prep and all that jazz. I just completed the first 2 chapters but I will be posting it in a weeks time. I'm just kinda nervous ( I have no idea why ). Thanks for relaxing me!! :flower:

Thanks!!! Hopefully I do it the right way :D

In the bright side, other ppl on this board (or maybe just me) who don't understand ff.net will be more confident to post their own stories.

Thanks again soo much! :flower:
