I'm pasting in the rules that Kiren posted in the Art Studio thread. Since many borrow items made by others, I thought many members might not visit the Art Studio folder but still need to know the restrictions. So here they are: No obscene images in your avatars. They will be deleted. Max total avatar dimensions = 110x110 pixels. Max total banner dimensions = 600 pixels wide x 200 pixels tall. Banner-maker sites I recommend: 1) http://www.bannersnack.com/banner-maker/make-your-own-banner.html 2) http://www.bannerfans.com/banner_maker.php *Please do not take anyone's work without their permission. If they say anyone can use what they post, you can go ahead, but give whoever made it credit in your signature* ETA: How to Add an Avatar and/or Banner -Find the drop down menu connected to the Preferences icon at the top right of the site -Click on either the Change Avatar or Change Signature option -For Avatars: the Upload option is for files on your local hard drive, the URL to avatar is for linking to an online photo site (e.g., Photobucket). We recommend uploading images and using that second option, especially if you want to use an animated GIF as your avatar. Otherwise, the file will be too big. -For Banners in Signatures: Use the Image button and paste in the URL where your banner image is stored -OR- by hand type [img] [/img] tags around the URL. You probably also will want to use the Center Align function. When you're done, click on the Edit Signature button at the bottom of the dialog box. Edited by LAwoman, Mar 22 2013, 11:17 PM.

*bump* Just wanted to get this back in the Active Topics list since we're probably going to get some new members in the wake of the s3 premiere date announcement. |

Once again, bumping this thread back into the active topics again since we have been getting some new members and I'm noticing a bunch of avatars and banners that are a little too big (for both new and returning members) Once again - the rules from Kiren: No obscene images in your avatars. They will be deleted. Max total avatar dimensions = 110x110 pixels. Max total banner dimensions = 600 pixels wide x 200 pixels tall. One banner per person. Banner-maker sites I recommend: 1) http://www.bannersnack.com/banner-maker/make-your-own-banner.html 2) http://www.bannerfans.com/banner_maker.php *Please do not take anyone's work without their permission* |

Max total avatar dimensions = 110x110 pixels. Maximum allowed size of 30 KB if you are uploading from your computer. No maximum size if you "Use URL to Avatar".

The maximum is 30 KB - and that is a zetaboards set thing (so there is no way to change it even if we wanted to) |

It's set at that so that if people go a little bit over they won't get an error message but the bigger the pictures get, the more annoying it is in the threads (if you don't believe me, just head over to ff.net's blog, they made the 'cover art' bigger and have been getting a lot of grief for it) - it takes up more space and makes it annoying to read through threads, especially on mobile devices. |

I kind of think that middle one is plenty for the max. But I see Cythy's point that it creates extra hurdles getting new members settled and familiar with the tech setup if their attempts to add an avatar trigger error messages frequently. Was there a particular reason this came up recently? |

I don't think the 30kb thing is a big deal unless you're trying to store them on the zetaboards server or whatever. If you upload them to an outside source you'd still be able to use ones over 70kb, I think.... :) |

Could be - then the only time it would be an issue is when we have to manually change a ranking (which happened last week when there was some kind of glitch that was not changing people to 'Training Officer' at 100 posts) - when I went back and changed all of the new members to 'rookies' I did get an error message about the avatar for some of the members |

I never make icons/avatars anything other than 100x100. Just because that is what I have always known to be the standard size. Previous boards I have been a member of, Livejournal and FanForum all had/have that as the size. But I'm not opposed to bigger or anything, just throwing that out there.

@mara me too, I've been a member of boards in the past where you can make your icon as large as 200x200 but even then in most cases the forum's standard settings and sizes it down to 100x100 anyway. It's been my understanding aswell that the standard icon size is 100x100 but I also think, as long as it doesn't stretch the page it probably doesn't make a difference. |

Bumping this thread because with the renewed traffic and promo stills, people are starting to make new banners:
Please remember the dimensions when creating your banner or ask one of the moderators to help you fix the dimensions. Thanks! |

Another bump and reminder about the rules - my semester from is now over so I'll be on more often and within the next week I'm going to start PM'ing people so if you get a PM from me about this, please fix your banners/avatars.

Roger that! I'd like to apologize not reading this first. But all corrected, so in the future, smaller banners. Thank you for making this forum very easy to navigate. |
