Yeah, I love that he was being very polite about it and apoligized.

If I was talking to Ben I would be a little speechless and incoherent too.

Yes this interviewer is painfully ackward. My background is in public relations, media and publishing and it pains me when I hear someone being interviewed and the person doing the interviewing is sooo bad at it. She asked good questions but didn't low how to respond when he answered them. All she kept saying was "interesting." you can tell he was itching for something more conversational and some real feedback.

As someone who is newly discovering all of this, I want to thank you all for all your effort to share all this awesomeness here.

Ben is fantastic... So intelligent and introspective... Can totally see why he is able to bring to life someone like Sam Swarek.

See this is interesting to me. When I listened to it, I agree she was awkward. But I also don't know what she should've done differently. So since you mentioned your background, could you say a little more about that? When they answer a question, is it good to make it into a conversation? Because a conversation and interview are different things right? I would definitely not mind hearing more about what you think of it. It's good stuff.

Hi SaFan,

I listened to the interview again and I do want to say that the girl is lovely and clearly really a genuine fan and viewer of the show so that's always a good jumping off point. You can feel her excitement to speak to him and that I'm sure helps to put him more at ease.

The art to interviewing someone is well, an art. You start off knowing you have a string of questions you want to have answered and you know what the person is there to promote. You also know that you have a confined period of time and you can't control how long the person you're talking to is going to take to answer the questions so there is a finesse to moving interviews forward.

Yes a conversation and an interview are two very different things but when you watch a good interview, it seems like they are just having a chat. Its important to make the person you are interviewing feel like you are understanding them and taking in what they are sharing with you and it seemed like more often than not she would hear him, say "definetly" or "interesting" at the most disjointed times and move on without acknowledging what he has just said. The segway.. how you get from one question to the next is so important and that just seemed to odd her and you can tell that he picked up on it.

Here is something else, early on in the interview he says that his favorite part of season 2 is what he shot at the very end and he also makes clear that he hasn't watched the episodes, yet she asks what some of his favorite things that he has seen being shot during the season were. Ben has already answered that question earlier.

Its that kind of stuff. I just cringe sometimes when I listen to celebrity interviews. The ones I have seen of Ben, it is clear that he is so introspective, interesting and thinks a great deal about how to answer the question in a real way. Gotta love that.

Sorry... that was too long an answer. Hope you aren't sorry you asked.

Ev

No I'm not sorry I asked LOL. Thanks for posting all that information! I see what you mean about acknowledging it. I guess I looked past it a little bit because I would've been so nervous to interview him haha. I also hate when the same question is asked. I definitely think the interview should be altered as it goes to suit what has already been discussed.

I know it is tough for an interviewer sometimes when they are trying to remember details that they wanna ask and stuff they need to say before the interview ends; especially when the actor is more open and gives longer answers.
Obviously if you are well trained and experienced you find a way around it but I can relate a little I suppose.

Absolutely... interviewing is an art form. Especially when its on TV or Radio. Its one thing to sit with someone or talk to them on the phone and ask questions but when you know its going to be pipped out for people to watch or listen to, its harder. Don't get me wrong, I thought this girl was fun to listen to and her admiration for Ben and love for the show was endearing. Whatever she lacked in style and skill she made up for in genuine niceness.
