Yeah the only link between the two storylines I found is the "gang drive-by shooting versus cop shooting the kid"

For the most part, however, I thought the story was handled well. I’m always fascinated with stories where characters have to live with choices they regret. I doubt Epstein, even though his life was threatened, wanted to kill Tyler. I’m sure that there are cops in this world that might get off on the power – though I think that particular “archetype” has been exaggerated in both the media and in fiction – but Dov Epstein is not one of them. This is an event that will live with him for a long time to come; I’m glad it looks like the show will be treating it as an ongoing storyline.

In this week’s episode of Rookie Blue, “A Good Shoot,” poor Epstein went into a convenience store for licorce and ended up killing a would-be teenage robber. Fortunately, his fellow rookies all believed his story, despite the initial evidence to the contrary. There is a certain appeal to the brotherhood of cops, but for once I’d like to see a show where someone besides IA (or its Canadian equivalent) has doubts, even if the cop in question is as cute and sweet as Epstein.

"Rookie Blue" has certainly done its fair share of heavy storylines -- but none so relevant as tonight's episode, in which Officer Dov Epstein (Gregory Smith) shoots and kills a black teenager during a convenience store robbery. Though Dov believes that the teenager was armed, no weapon is found at the scene, and Dov's judgment is immediately called into question -- not only by the police force, but by Dov himself.

Nathy there could be a link. I mean, if a community is going to explode over a controversial shooting, having a large crowd already gathered on the street for an event that gets emotions elevated already could be a big catalyst. My feeling about it is that if you're going to spend the money to do a complicated location shoot like that with tons of extras and moving parts, then make the confrontation scarier and more dramatic. The crowd backed down a little too easily just from Gail and Ollie getting their batons out. That small band of cops should have felt much more threatened and surrounded and for a moment like this was truly on the brink of becoming a full on riot. But I guess that's more a Southland strength than a Rookie Blue thing.

You're right, I didn't think about that part

Thanks for sharing the articles Natalie.
1st article:

I’ve talked about how much I enjoy Swarek and McNally as a couple for some time now, but there were two moments that really stood out in this episode. Both times, it was a look that Swarek gave his girlfriend without her seeing. The first was when she dashed across the road to get ice cream, and the second when she was pushing the witness. On one hand, there was a side of Andy that showed a kind of joy and innocence. Then, there was a glimpse of a serious cop, good at her job. Swarek is impressed by both, and in love with both.
MCWORD!!!

If you needed another subconscious remeinder: Tyler Marks/Trayvon Martin. If you don’t think the name was picked on purpose, you’re mistaken.
UM NO! She didn't even think the episode could have been (was) shot way before the Trayvon Martin case...

Someone on ABC's website said it as well - I never comment but I actually did and pointed out that it was shot in August.

I liked that the reviewer pointed out that Sam was impressed by both sides of Andy. Shows that he isn't solely into her innocence and naivete but also her tough side.

With you 100% LAwoman. The only piece of this story (for me) that could have been stretched a little is how Frank works the event. Don't get me wrong I think the Frank back story was excellent, but was it necessary for him to partake in this event? I can't imagine that this happens all the time, but I guess it's a good sign when the division leader joins in for a show of support to the community. This could also been an opportunity to give us a little background story of Frank and where he came from. I thought that it was actually good police work for them to assess the situation and what possible immediate dangers of this shooting could effect or impact the community. That shows me that the police are aware of any potential dangers to the public's safety. It also helps them be prepared with an emergency plan in case of any crowd disturbance or riots as needed.

TV Guide Canada has the first review of 304 up.

Excerpt:

There’s always a lot of pressure when beginning a new job, but most people don’t have the added pressure of proving your promotion isn’t a result of them sleeping with the boss. It’s no wonder Traci was feeling the heat on her first day as a detective.

Like the last episode, Thursday’s “Girls’ Night Out” set out to prove that even three seasons in, these cops can still make mistakes. It makes them seem real and relatable, and makes me feel a bit better about some of my own errors. So go forth with your slip-ups, rookies!

One of the first, less monumental mistakes of the night came as Gail and Andy claimed they were taking Traci out for “one drink” to celebrate her promotion to detective. We all know going out for one drink really means four. It’s a particular dangerous move when you’re working the next day, but it’s definitely a mistake I too have made myself. See? Very relatable! It was also pretty funny, as they had to get the beautiful soul that is Chris Diaz to chauffeur their hungover selves to work.

Speaking of St. Diaz, he too was in for a minimal mistake: re-falling for a girl he already had, Gail the sociopath (her words, not mine). Come on, Diaz! She already ate your heart out once! Plus, she has too much sexual tension and history with new cutie Collins.

haha, YUP! I've done that too many times to count in my mid 20s! Stay up late, drinking and having to go into work at 8am...good times! :haha:

I LOVE that they use real-world situations even minor things!

Christine (corlando) has her review up on TVFanatic.com now. Go check it out and comment, it's great! Some hilarious parts actually.

The most fun of the night was at the very beginning as Andy, Gail and Traci debated what a man notices first on a woman. Was this really a question? The answers made it obvious why Traci's the one moving up to detective.

And was it just me or was Andy trying to prove Traci's point with those off duty shirts was wearing? Whether she was donning her sunglasses or not, I'm fairly certain no man was looking at her eyes.

There's a recap up on this blog. Sort of amusing, except she keeps calling Jerry Harper instead of Barber.

Here's another review of 305 on Click Clack

http://cliqueclack.com/tv/2012/07/06/rookie-blue-review-messy-houses/

It's mostly positive, but here are a couple interesting opinions:
Excerpt:
Quote:

The story about the guns Jerry seized a couple of years ago ending up back on the street didn’t ring true with me. It would seem to me if someone in the evidence lockup was selling guns and other confiscated items on the street, it would be a very big deal, and it just felt discarded here.

Diaz has gone from the good/naïve guy that he was early in the first season to an internet dating site player and a complete ass to Peck. There’s just something so pointless about how he’s acting; he was far from a victim in how their relationship ended. He’s not earned the right to act like a child, yet sleeping around and attempting – poorly – to flaunt it is the person he’s decided to be. I’m not sold on Peck and Collins yet, but if this is who Diaz was going to become, she’s better off.

Totally agree with the points about Chris. I commented on it during the episode. He was mean and cruel to Gail last season when sh*t went down and in 3x05 was even ruder.
Talk about not handling rejection well. Seemed out of character for a sweet, kind guy to not even give Gail a chance to fully explain and discuss.

As much as I hear it, I'm wondering if Chris broke up with Denise because he was attracted to Gail and now he's feeling like he screwed up his whole plan so he's diving off the deep end

I guess he is quite young and it may be in line for someone to feel like they got screwed, but it seems odd for Chris to be the guy to feel like that. He seems to give so much of himself and be so innocent and loving.

I also felt like the guns storyline was made into such a small deal it's impossible... It seemed big and in the end it almost just seemed a way for us to learn that Jerry had cheated...
