Does anyone else feel like most fanfiction get Sam and Andy's relationship wrong? I mean most make it seem like Andy is the one that's scared of commitment when it's actually Sam.. Where do people even get the idea Andy wants to run when things get heavy? I have read it time and time in fanfiction where Andy comes off as someone who's scared of being in relationship but what we seen on the show when she was with Luke and with Sam now proves the opposite.. I mean other than that one time she walked out on Luke, is there something I'm missing?.. I still enjoy reading fanfiction just wish there were more stories that focused on Sam's fears. |

I think the belief that Andy has abandonment issues stems from the fact that we know that she was abandoned by her mother. Furthermore, she had to deal with a father who was a drunk - which, in a way, is almost like another abandonment. In 1x06, Sam tells her that he gets that she wants to 'stand alone', because her mother left her, and it is implied that it is a method of her protecting herself from getting hurt. Also, like you mentioned, she told Luke that she 'takes off' when things get heavy. This suggests that she has a habit of leaving before she can be left. Regarding fanfic, I think a lot of people - myself included - have an easier time getting into Andy's head than Sam's. This is largely because we know more about Andy, really, and she is more of an open-book than Sam is. He keeps a lot of his cards close to his chest and there are many blanks in what we know about him. As a result, I think a lot of writers - again, including me - find it easier to explore Andy's issues. That said, I have read some which explore Sam's but I agree that there are less. Ones that have hints of both are especially nice. I can't name any specifically but I think that someone here will most likely be able to direct you to some. |

I always saw this as canon -- the fact that Andy has more fears and Sam kinda "knows what he wants". Until this season, that's how I imagined their relationship would be. I got very used to seeing it like that haha. I still don't mind fanfiction with that way though, even if it seems less realistic. |

I agree with marap and SAFan23. I often find it harder to get into Sam's head...whether it's because we don't know nearly as much about him or just the fact that he's a guy and as woman I find it hard figuing out what a guy's thinking. lol Also, up until this season I felt that it was completely in character to have Andy be the scared one, not Sam. Based on her abandonment issues, the fake she had issues sleeping in other people's beds, etc. And I still think that's there, BUT Sam has an affect on her that takes her fear away. This season we're getting a bit of a different side of him and realizing he may be just as scared or more scared than Andy. |

I agree with you Marap it's easier to write from Andy's perspective but I would still like if more fics were about Sam's fears. Its obvious from this season Sam has a lot of issues and is scared of commitment. |

I must be really strange ... I find it way easier to write from Sam's perspective and get in his head. Maybe it's because we don't know much about his past that it's less pressure and more flexibility? I find his character and his motivations fascinating and it's sort of my default to write his POV. Whereas Andy confuses the hell out of me.

I really enjoy writing from Sams POV too. It always seemed easier bc we watched him pine for her for two years, we knew how he felt about her, but she was sort of harder to figure out. She wasn't obvious about how she felt about him until maybe the second half of season 2. Also, I never really pegged Andy as a runner. I think she's far more likely to jump head first into things she's not ready for or hasn't thought out as much as she should. |

Also, since most fic was written PRE season three, you can't really blame the authors. None of us saw this new facet of Sams personality coming. |

I usually don't post a new story before I've finished my last one, but I wanted to get this one-shot out before the next episode: Attacked And I promise the next chapter The Cottage Hideaway will be out tomorrow! |

I don't find it that hard to write from Sam's perspective either. As a matter of fact, I am working on one right now from his alone. |

I don't see Sam as afraid of commitment so much as he's afraid she'll break his heart. She's never really showed him much affection. Yes she gave him a peck on the cheek once when he let her drive the truck and she told him she loved him but it seemed more of a chore or a duty that she had to get out of the way. I thought it was cute as hell but mostly because Of Sam's/Ben's reaction then anything else. I just think that he believes that while he is deeply in love with her, she just loves him superficially and she will leave him when things get tough, and personally I think he's right to believe that. I find it a lot easier to understand Sam because Ben Bass does such an amazing job projecting Sam's emotions, while Missy P seems to only be able to look pretty or sassy or upset. I know this will not be a popular opinion, but that's what I get when I watch the show. If there wasn't fanfic that explored different versions of the characters I probably wouldn't even watch. |

Wrote an early/teen Sam fic. At the Beginning http://www.fanfiction.net/s/8394351/1/ Rating K+ Sam Swarek is a trouble maker, destined to flunk out of school. What will send him on a path toward police services? Edited by StarryDreamer, Aug 5 2012, 12:23 AM.

I used to find it easier to write Andy - although throughout the drabbles, I'm learning that it is actually not that hard to slip into Sam's head. As for Andy being scared - I think the 'face' of the fictions are going to change during this off season - we did learn a lot about both of them this season that will help the writers more |

Totally agree with you here. I think he absolutely loves her, but he is scared that if she finds out about his past and when things get tough she might leave him. I would still watch if it wasn't for fanfiction, but I do admit that the fanfiction has helped suck me into this RB obsession that I can't get enough of. With all the new stories that are posted, along with dabbling in it myself I never get anything done! |
