Who is right about Claire McNally?

I'm wondering what everyone's prediction is right now. Is Sam gonna be right and she's gonna break Andy's heart or is Andy right and Claire has good intentions?

I don't trust Claire, so with that choice, I picked Sam. But I think it's more complicated than either one being completely right.

Sam,, but only because I want him to be right! I think if he's wrong, the next time he'll try to protect here she'll go back to 'You doubted my mother but you were wrong then too so ..'' And if he's right maybe she'll won't be too defensive the next time he's trying to protect her.

In a way, I think they're both right. Claire may have left, but I can see where Andy would want to take the opportunity now to possibly get to know her mom. It doesn't mean she forgives her for everything. On the other hand, I think Sam is right and Claire is going to break Andy's heart again.

I'm a little on the fence with this one, I feel like Claire has good intentions with wanting to get to know Andy, but I also feel like she's going to walk out on her again.

As for Sam's in part in this, I would probably be just as skeptical as him and I most definitely would have done a backroungd check. So I'm going for Sam. Then he can be there for her and then she can (hopefully) aprreciate him for being him, just looking out for her. But I kinda feel she's gonna be pissed at him for him "getting it right". If it goes that way, that is.

I'm going with Sam because I really feel like had Andy and Claire not accidently bumped into each other there is just no way she'd be back in Andy's life. Also, I agree with @LAWoman I don't trust Claire and since we don't know the whole story I can only imagine how complicated it is.

I think they are both right.

I think Sam is right to be leery. However, running her background like that wasn't cool. In the US running that deep a background check without cause would be a misuse of department resources at the least and possibly a crime. I was however, such a *guy* thing to do.

I think Andy is right to get to know her mother, although I think she should be careful until she figures out the whole story and her mother has earned her trust.

I think Sam is eventually going to be right for the most part. Where has Claire been all of these years that Andy has been an adult and able to make her own decisions about having a relationship with her mom. If what Claire said was true about Tommy not allowing her to talk to Andy, then she still has a ton of years to account for. All the sudden they meet by chance and she wants to be in Andy's life, I don't buy it. I think there is an ulterior motive there and she will end up leaving.

I think I'll go with Sam as well. I was even surprised that they got along so well at the beginning of the episode. I know 4 weeks passed since last weeks episode but we have no clue what happened in between so I was surprised that Claire just showed up at Andy's place. Of course I hope she sticks around for Andy but honestly I think she'll leave, again.

I had to go with Sam too, just because Claire seems to be really flighty to me. I would love if she and Andy can get to a better place with each other (maybe somewhere down the line as the show goes on from season to season), but right now, I have to side with Sam. We just don't know that much about her and why exactly she left (or is it just because Tommy was hard to be married to?). It's hard for me to make a decision based upon a couple of scenes; I just feel like we don't really know Claire all that well.

Sam. We STILL don't know why she came back. It seems like Andy doesn't, either.

I'm on the fence with this poll (so I didn't make a choice) because I think there needs to be a third option that neither one is completely right/wrong

Ha! When TV absentee parents resurface, don't they always need a kidney donor or something? Maybe that's what Sam was afraid of.

It's funny because I excepted a 50/50 thing. My friend is completely convinced that Claire is a good person and has good intentions. I don't trust her at all.

Sorry I can't go back and make a third option on the poll lol.

I also think if she does leave maybe Andy will accuse Sam a little for not being welcoming. Maybe.

I'm sorry, the more I watch this episode, the more I think that Claire has an agenda.

When Andy turns to get the key, Sam keeps looking at Claire, and she gives him a nervous look before looking down.

Then, he is going with his gut when he does the background check and seems unconvinced when he says he didn't find anything. Andy mentioned she was in debt with the credit check, maybe it has something to do with that?

Then the I don't want her to break your heart AGAIN - I think it was more foreshadowig than a confession.

Plus, it is obvious she has been in town a while (since she knew the family from 3.05 so well) but never contacted her at all until she happened to run into her?

Maybe its my own personal issues coming to play, but I DO NOT trust that woman. Sorry.

No matter who is right, Andy will make Sam the bad guy, either for being right or for being wrong. It's a lose- lose situation for him either way.

Honestly, I just don't know here.

I mean, fundamentally, I'd say Andy is right bc no matter how together her and Sam are, this thing with her mom is older, and deeper and has gone on longer, and if she were dating Luke at this point in the story, would people be asking this question? Maybe Andy truly feels that at this stage in their relationship, they aren't AT that point yet. I mean, she said it. She hasn't met Sam's family yet, and if she hasn't met them, why would she feel like it's okay for him to be digging around in her mom's business? As nasty as she was to him, I really can't blame her. It's her personal business. And it's something that's close to her, and has left her vulnerable in the past, and it really is HER decision to move forward with this reunion or to hang back and be wary.

That being said, I don't see Sam acting any differently. I would probably have been disappointed in him if he HADN't done a check on Claire. (Incidentally, I think Luke might have done the exact same thing. He just might have been a little more sly about it.)

I guess I would have to say that Sam is in the wrong here. But only because he got caught. :)

Now that you mention it, how stupid does that blonde cop have to be to hand him the info when Andy is standing right there? I mean with the name, she had to know it was about Andy's mom. Unless maybe he didn't spell out to her that he wanted it on the down low, and she assumed he asked her to do it on Andy's request? I guess he must not have made it clear that Andy wasn't supposed to know, which was about as stealth as Luke was with Jo. Andy's men really need to get it together if they're going to do things behind her back. They do realize they're dating a smart cop they work with every day, right?

I think one of the reasons Sam doing this hit such a raw nerve with Andy is that even though in some cases she's had better instincts, in general she trusts Sam's gut. So the mere fact that he was on guard enough to risk a backlash and poke around must raise the hackles of all those worst fears she's desperately trying to ignore.
