@enits Yes, there is something like that, but I think it operates out of a hospital. I know a lady who's kid has severe autism and once when he was having a particularly bad spell they had him living in this hospital wing for a bit. I have not heard of a temporary shelter for kids, outside of the hospital wing thing I just mentioned. But I imagine they must exist, I'll have to ask around! ETA: I just did some digging and asked a friend of mine. Here's what she said:
Blue Door is a homeless shelter. So definitely not what someone like Sarah would be placed in, considering she wasn't "homeless". Not much help, but something...? Edited by StarryDreamer, Jul 23 2012, 07:10 PM.

I'm saying it's an ethical violation according to the National Association of Social Workers code of ethics and state/provincial licensure requirements of being a social worker, counselor, psychologist, etc. If one of my counseling professors has a relationship with a student, they can have their license to practice taken away, not to mention lose their teaching job. I've known some professor/student relationships in other fields though. It does seem more like Claire would have changed her career after she left her husband and daughter. It's like being a social worker, she's trying to make up for her past mistakes. I wish we could get some more info about why exactly she left. Edited by vixenali, Jul 23 2012, 08:34 PM.

Is it wrong that I am almost a little disappointed that they have been hinting that Sam had some troubled past beyond his sister being attacked and that being the catalyst fro him being a cop. Why can't a guy with a normal upbringing be closed off, mysterious, over-protective etc? That exists in the real world too non?...so I hope the writers don't feel like they have to weave this complicated, disastrous, chaotic past for Sam's character. |

Yeah, back in season 1, I thought they were going to do it so that appearances were deceiving. Smooth, seemingly perfect Luke would turn out to be the one with the troubled childhood, given his Bio on ABC. Then I pictured soc-called bad boy Sam turning out to have a solid, loving blue collar family, something along the lines of Matthew McConaughey's character's family in 10 Ways to Lose a Guy. I didn't start doubting that image until the ice cream story, and even then I didn't really rethink it until Tassie basically confirmed it was based on Sam's real past. |

Nope I don't think it's wrong. Especially cause I'm feeling the same way. I think wanting to protect his sister is enough of a catalyst for him wanting to be a cop. |

After reading all these comments I have realized that I really don't know much about Sam and what I thought I knew could be so different that what has actually happened in his past. Before the comments about Sam's past I always assumed he had a 'normal' childhood and loving family, but after the pistachio ice cream talk at the end of last season and the foster-home hint this season I kind of created this image of his past being very rough. Something along the lines of his dad being a dead-beat who ended up in jail because of drugs, which I relate to Anton Hill being Sam's 'White Whale.' Like he wanted Hill behind bars so bad because if it wasn't for people like him, his dad would have been there for him growing up. I refuse to believe that his mom was a 'bad' mom and think maybe she died somehow or was killed, which could be another reason for him wanting to protect innocent people and become a cop. Maybe his dad was in jail, and mom died which left him and Sarah to foster care. I think Sarah's attack was definitely the catalyst to him choosing his career though. With his mom out of the picture (assuming what I said previously) Sarah would be the only one he has left and he would definitely want to protect her. The writers could take Sam's past in so many ways and I trust that Tassie and the crew will give us an amazing story that we are all hooked too. I know they said they will go into Sam's past in season 4, but I really do hope we actually learn a lot. I would love to meet Sarah and see the affect she has on her brother. I hope Andy is still by his side when we learn about him too. Sam's mysterious character (and gorgeous body) are definitely part of what keeps me intrigued in the show. :) |

It's not as huge a deal in other fields. Although it depends on the school and the relationship. For instance, it's a bigger deal with undergrads than grad students. There are also gray areas around people who were grad students together and then one gets a faculty job, but were already in a relationship. Or people who are in totally different areas of study. Our faculty spouses who go back to school. I have no idea why, why for some reason in my head, I think Claire became a social worker later. Like she went back to school after she left. |

Hmm.. it's not the same as we have, respite homes here are "normal" homes and families, and you don't have to be homeless. We used to have a boy living with us two days a week when I was a kid, to help give his parents a break, and here it's the CPS that sets the whole thing up, picks a volunteered family etc.. |

I don't know if this has been mentioned before or if this is the right place to do it, but does anyone else want some flashback scenes to Sam as a rookie? or to Sam and his sister when he found out that she was attacked? I was just watching some season 1 episodes and there were a couple of times where Sam mentions cases he worked as a rookie and watching Andy's dad work a case. I think it would be awesome to get some more back stories on all of the characters. |

Now that they've killed off Jerry...definitely. I think that a flashback episode could also bring in a lot of "older" characters - Tommy, Boyko, possibly Bibby and Boyd, etc. However, the show is called "Rookie Blue" and is supposed to be about the rookies so I kinda doubt that we'll ever see a flashback episode that goes that far back. |

see this whole thing is why I would really like to see them resolve the McSwarek issues and get them back together. Not just because I ship them hard and it will make me happy, but because they can then concentrate on these backstories. We can find out why these characters are the way they are. Why does Sam build a wall around his feelings? What is his past? Why was Andy so quick to forgive her mom, but couldn't forgive Sam? And not just Sam and Andy, but the rest of them. I feel like they put together really interesting characters who all have some sort of story to tell, and I feel like we've only ever scratched the surface with them. We're just starting to see why Gail is the ice queen, why Nick really went away to the Army. I'm all for the relationships, but I think they can put these couples together and still give us one hell of a show every week. And Oliver. We need more Matty Gordon in our lives!!! |

THIS!!! I am an absolute spazzy Sam/Andy supporter but it doesn't mean I don't love the rest of the cast, I love the characters and I want to know what makes them tick. I was hoping for more of this in S3, so hopefully S4 delves into it a bit more.
True, but flashbacks to the training officers/ senior staff AS rookies would still be applicable. And with how well they layer things in their eps it wouldn't be so far fetched/ against the grain of the show (I rewatched Messy Houses yesterday and it's an excellent example, what with the literal "messy house" of the hoarders, the issues in the family from the other case and figuratively with Andy's past/ Claire). So I can definitely see a flashback to the rookie days fitting in, not that they'd agree, but Tassie (and actors) have said in various forms they'd like to do something off the beaten path, and doing an ep that's a bit different could be fun so hopefully they don't discount it, if not for this season for a future season. It could be the same type of vibe we get in 2x10 but it would just go back way the heck farther. lol. Perhaps they could draw from the comments the TOs make about their past cases and use some flashbacks as anecdotal support for the present day case. Furthermore, they have the option of using a flashback to introduce us to Sarah, maybe there is a case really similar to Sarah's and it brings up flashbacks in the form of Sam's memories (then the ep could end with meeting the present day Sarah). --- it's possible I've put too much thought into this. . . Not that I think any of it would happen, just saying it's not completely unrealistic. |
