I chose sad because out of all the characters, he's the one that I guess I didn't connect to. I finally realized why this episode bothered me so much - any other series that I have been really serious about, I normally don't start watching until it is two three seasons in (just the way it happened), nor do I always have the time to watch every week if it is a fall show. Therefore, I think that this is the first time I'm "dealing" with a character death where I cannot immediately go to watch the next episode to see how the other characters deal - that always "helped" me deal with it. |

This just occurred to me,when Andy got engaged with Callaghan,he got shot and from there the relationship fell apart. Now Traci gets engaged to jerry and he gets brutally murdered. To the writers, leave the engagement storyline in the cooler,we have had enough! I am glad for Noelle and frank......Andy and Traci has had a raw deal with their beaus, though Andy has Sam....not sure anymore, will see. |

As someone who has experienced many deaths of my favourite characters, I can totally understand where she is coming from. Sometimes, if you loved that character so, so much, it is too painful to continue watching. I get that. As silly as it sounds, it really is a grieving process. And while I do not feel this way about Jerry, I can understand that some people do. I have stopped watching shows before, due to a character death, and I have felt no shame in doing so. |

Well said Tess I agree with the majority its sad when a character dies and its seems more so if you were attached but its still a character. The creators of this show make an effort to cater this show to our liking how many shows do that? They also have to keep their product fresh, exciting, keep us on the edge off our seats even if it means tinkering with our favorites every show that wants to survive does it. Its surprises me and freaks me out to an extent how attached we can become to fairy tale characters tells you what state the world is in if we have time to sit down a chew out a writer but we don't have the same passion to stop gun violence or sexual exploitation. |

I considered more options, but I thought it would split the results too much - cause too wide a spread. I also wanted to focus on our hearts not our heads, like what our gut emotion is, rather than whether we agree with the decision, as such.

See, the problem with that is, other than sheer fascination, I didn't really have an overwhelming emotional response. I mean, it was sad, but it was supposed to be sad. I wasn't moved to tears, or overly upset, because I understood the need for this storyline. I think I tend to look at a lot of these storylines from a more technical angle, and so...emotionally...I was concerned for Jerry, but overall, I was more just incredibly impressed with the episode, which made me happy. So....Sad doesnt fit, but neither does happy. :) |

see I didn't choose that because it feels negative *L* Sorry for overanalyzing your choices. But indifferent would sort of mean that I have no feeling at all towards it, and that's not necessarily true either. |

I thought about it its a double edge sword if they had killed off Luke would there have been as much hysteria.Sure I think a lot of people would have grumbled but sadly some would have said yeah. The writers had to pick a character with impact someone with attachments I mean they couldn't kill off Sam or Andy that would be suicide so the next set of characters with a lot riding for them.It got them a reaction however not as much negative as they had hoped.I will say that compared to other programs that make it a point to rid their characters this is tame try watching The Vampire Diaries. |

Yes I have read that article and it left a bad taste in my mouth regardless of what they say. I say the same thing as i say about soap writers I could do a much better job then they could writing a show and not kill of a character that we've had since the beginning and lots have fell in love with.
Same here I came up w/Nick, Luke, Frank, Dov or even Noelle. Those characters haven't been much on the show and it would have made more sense to kill a "Rookie" instead of a detective since it is called, "Rookie Blue" and Rookies do makes mistakes. But I guess the writers fell asleep on this one!
Yes your right in tv-land it does happen I've had many characters get killed off over the years and I've STOPPED watching shows because of some of them and the only thing that will keep me watching is if they keep Sam/Andy together since Luke is back and I could do w/out him even tho I love Eric and talk to him a lot on twitter but w/Luke back anything is possible like Andy having to pick between the two and if she picks Luke I'm really watching anymore that's for sure! |

I was just reading the article and thinking, I wish they'd killed off so and so instead of Jerry. I already miss him.

I think the writers are actually capitalizing on that one "Rookies make mistakes" in the next episode Spoiler: click to toggle But I don't know if they should kill an original rookie.

Honestly, I feel like the only way they will kill off an original rookie is if there are contract issues. Other than that, I don't know that they would kill one of them - at least not until at least season 5 or 6. Yes, Noam was part of the core cast but the show revolves around the rookies and their lives. Looking back, there were multiple episodes in season 1 where Jerry didn't even make an appearance. |

First of all - hard as I try I don't understand the degree that some people are upset over this. It is a television show (and thankfully not a soap opera), they are telling a story and this happened to be how the story unfolded. Jerry was a secondary character on the show but I believe it stings a little more because this season they really have put an emphasis on Jerry - both with Traci and with Sam. How many people didn't even realize Jerry and Sam were best friends until this season. There were times that I even resented some of the scenes we got with Jerry and Traci when we weren't getting the scenes we wanted with Sam and Andy (and even though Sam is not a Rookie - in my opinion he is not a secondary character). Jerry's death is the catalyst for the rest of the season - and personally I cannot wait to sit back and enjoy the rest of the season. Kudos to the writers, I say! |

I chose sad. I was devastated at first, but then I realized that I was feeling devastated for Traci, not specifically because Jerry was dead. Enuka's acting was just so real, and the writing was incredible. I could actually FEEL the pain that the characters were in, and that's rare for a TV show. (The only other shows that I can do that with are The Mentalist and Bones.) Don't get me wrong; I liked Jerry. Loved him, actually. One of the best lines from the show came from him: "I don't care if you stick wings up your ass and fly, you get that footage to me right now!" I always felt like he was the comic relief amidst all the drama. And, of course, he and Traci were adorable together. But I think a lot of people are more upset over the fallout that his death will cause and not the death itself. Have a little faith in Tassie and the crew, guys...they have stellar instincts and are keeping the show within realistic bounds. It's not always rainbows and butterflies in the cop world. And for the worried McSwarek fans, including myself...make like 2x11 and Keep the Faith. Tassie wouldn't have strung us along this far just to drive our Trustmobiles off a cliff, and like she said: "Getting to the finale is half the fun." Think big picture, people!

I think it is also a bit of the shock. Until this season RB has been a rather light show. Almost every episode was wrapped up nicely with a bow and it never got really really dangerous. You knew that everything was resolved and then you would look forward to the next episode with hope for McSwarek scenes. And BAM! This season was much darker and much more real than before. Jerry even dies.... I never had a thing for Jerry. I did not even like him that much until this season and like Frank he was just a secondary character for me. He played this episode so very well!! I truly think lots of fans are just scared what is going to happen now. And I also was at first. But now I am looking forward to the next episode. I trust Tassie and the writers and I think it's really sad so many viewers tweeted hateful things. And should the season indeed end without satisfaction, THEN there is time enough to make this known to the writers. There are 4 more episodes and last year THOSE WERE THE BEST!! |
