Sorry if this is posted anywhere else on the board but I couldn't find it...

I was wondering if anyoine knows/has an opinion on whether the cast actually reads their fanmail? I mean, do they just get given pics to sign and someone else does everything else? Would they have someone else read the mail first? I'd really be interested to see what you think. I want to send something but I'm wondering if it's worth it, you know?

I'm curious to know what other thinks...

I'm contemplating sending something too and the only thing I'd suggest is keeping it short. A 5 page letter is probably not going to get read.

I believe someone always screens everything first before it gets to the actors. And I agree about keeping a letter on the short side to increase the chance that it gets read.

I remember someone saying Ben read their letter because he mentioned something they said in the letter on the picture they sent back.

hmm yeah ok thanks. I wouldn't think it'd be good to have it too long. Mine wasn't even a page. Where did you hear that someone else reads it first? I'm just hoping that someone doesn't read it and then for some reason decides the actors shouldn't...

I think it's likely it's screened. They can't read everything, and so assistants of some sort probably direct them toward things that are appropriate (not crazy, stalkerish, or the opposite--some kind of negative screed) and interesting as top priority for them to read first with the limited time they have.

When I was in the soap fandom, when we'd send letters they usually had an assistant who read their mail and would send out autographed photos in exchange with a form letter. The autographed photos were generic, but signed by the star.

But in Canada it could be very, very different.

Years and years ago I sent a fan letter to Canadian Jewel Staite (at the time I was writing to her regarding her role on "Flash Forward"). I received a letter from her mother (!!!) thanking me for my letter, telling me that Jewel was filming in LA but that she would pass along the letter and wanted me to know that Jewel loved hearing from her fans. She also sent along a generic signed photo. I don't remember the address I sent to, but I'm almost certain it was a management company address. There's no way I knew where she lived. So I believe that her managers gave her mother her mail since she was in LA at the time.

If I had to bet money, I'd bet that if you sent a letter to 5101 Orbitor, it is screened first by an assistant/office worker, but it'd eventually find its way to the appropriate person. In light of the fact that you'd be writing to a Canadian, the chances of a reply are higher because there are less people writing in and because, well... we're nice like that! lol
