A coworker has been using iBooks and gave me a mini tutorial the other day. I decided to try it out on my fanfic and seriously-- it's AMAZEBALLS. I just have to share. If you have a Mac and a iPad, it works best. I don't know if you can access this app as a PC user. You can, however, make your iBook into a pdf so that a PC user could have a copy, but it doesn't have the same texture as the iBook wherein you can add in video clips or interactive images to go along. This is what it looks like on my computer before exporting to iPad. http://twitpic.com/bi5kq3 All you need to do is download the app "iBooks Author" which is free in the app store. Then choose your template and copy/paste your fanfic into the work. You will have to add pages as it defaults to only 3 pages. But you can easily slide in images or video to go along with your fic. I thought this was especially cool because if your fic went with a particular scene from RB you could just slide it right in as a reference point using the widgets. When you're done export as an iBook to your desktop (or where ever you want to keep it on your hard drive). Then open iTunes and "add to library" the iBook file. It will add it into your iBooks list. Then sync your device (ipad, etc.) You can now take your fanfic on the go. Alternatively, you could export as a pdf and send copies to your friends/readers so they can sync it to their devices. It's only available to you and your device (unless you share via email or what have you). You can't "publish" it to the iBookstore because of copyright laws. But that being said, it's awesome having your fanfic on your little bookshelf on your iPad. |
