Nobody's mentioned Elvis yet, so I will, not 1 of my favourites but he was without a doubt the biggest star on the Planet. Even to this day he has millions of fans and impersonators, not bad for a man who died some 30 years ago.

A true Legend :clap

Talking of legends, step forward Mr. Freddie Mercury, a true one-off, unique voice, fantastic showman, brilliant songwriter, a real superstar. :clap
Front man of rock band Queen, four talented muscians who made great music and superb videos. Their Live Aid set was [and I hate to use this word] AWESOME.

My mate and I were talking, and we both agreed that there is'nt a decent music proramme on television. The only one that is any good is Later... with Jools Holland, but thats only on for a short run.
OK so they show some Festival highlights, but these are put on at some absurdly late hour, and there's no guarantee you'll see one of your favourite bands.
I think music is poorly covered by all the main channels, bring back The Old Grey Whistle Test, and show some Live Gigs now & then, have a competition to find the best new up and coming bands. Show some classic concerts from yesteryear.
Music is a very popular medium but is badly served by TV.

At what age should popular music entertainers call it a day?
Look at some that are still going strong, The Stones, Bowie, McCartney, Clapton, all in their 60's. I suppose it's up to them, and if they can fill stadiums , good luck to them. Let's face it they don't need the money, Most of the older acts don't get high chart positions, until they release a Greatest Hits album, usually at Christmas.
Don't get me wrong I like their music, but I just wondered when they should call it a day.? :bow :bow

At the other end of the spectrum, looking at some of the new younger bands, I can't help thinking that a lot of them will not be around in a few years time. Musical trends are changing faster now and if your'e not good enough you'll soon be history.
A lot of them seem just to want fame & fortune whereas years ago music seemed the priority, thats why some of the acts I mentioned above are still popular, they wrote good songs, some of them classics I expect it will sort itself out somehow and the really talented ones will carry on and the others will be 1 hit wonders then fall by the wayside. Such is life! :yoga

I see that Radiohead are letting people download their new album for free this month, another slap in the face for the greedy record companies. They make the music and it goes straight to the fans, cutting out the middlemen. I wonder if some other artists will do the same? They will get their money back in concert ticket sales and will most probably gain some new fans with this approach. :clap

Novelty Records, i.e. Grandad, The Fastest Milkman in The West, Convoy, anything by the Barron Knights, what are we to make of them , are they a neccessary evil or should they stop making them.? I've never bought a novelty record and I doubt if I ever will, but a lot of people do because they seem to get quite high in the charts.

Who are these people and why do they buy them? :ph43r:

Does anybody here play a musical instrument, I'd love to be able to but I'm too long in the tooth to learn now, so I'll just have to settle with my Air Guitar ! :clap

I see that some newspapers are giving away free CD's again. Every now and then theres a spate of them. I don't think it boosts sales by a lot, people usually buy their favourite newspaper on a daily basis regardless of what the others are giving away.
To be honest the CD's with a single artist or group are'nt too bad, but the compilation ones are pretty ropey. If I do get any I keep the goodish ones and either bin or give the others away. :phones
