As some of you may know I've started to try and learn Japanese purely because i find the language interesting. Just goning to leave some of my notes here because I can and hey someone else might find an interest
^_^
This is a link to the website i was using for my sources they have a pdf file of the lessons here:
http://www.nhk.or.jp/lesson/english/textbook_english.pdf
and 51 audio lessons free to download here:
http://www.nhk.or.jp/lesson/english/download/index.html
each audio lesson is 10 minutes long and (obviously) will give reference on how to say each of the phrases used in each lesson.
Hiragana and Katakana are the two forms of syllabary.
there are 46 characters in both the Hiragana and Katakana syllabary.
the main syllabary I shall be using is the Hiragana.
The 46 characters come in sections or columns usually consisting of 5 characters per column with the acception of the ya, wa and n columns.
The columns are known as the a, ka, sa, ta, na, ha, ma, ya, ra, wa and n columns.
Here is the Hiragana syllabary:
a column:
a = あ
i = い
u = う
e = え
o = お
ka column:
ka = か
ki = き
ku = く
ke = け
ko = こ
sa column:
sa = さ
shi = し
su = す
se = せ
so = そ
ta column:
ta = た
chi = ち
tsu = つ
te = て
to = と
na column:
na = な
ni = に
nu = ぬ
ne = ね
no = の
ha column:
ha = は
hi = ひ
fu = ふ
he = へ
ho = ほ
ma column:
ma = ま
mi = み
mu = む
me = め
mo = も
ya column:
ya = や
yu = ゆ
yo = よ
ra column:
ra = ら
ri = り
ru = る
re = れ
ro = ろ
wa and n columns
wa = わ
wo = を
n = ん
Lesson 1; Greetings.
The first lesson on the programme was to do with how to greet another person for the first time in Japanese.
The main phrase in this lesson is:
"Hajimemashite." "watashi wa ___ desu."
This means "how do you do?" "I'm ___." (The blank space in both places would be your name not some "hilarious" pun.)
The grammar point of this lesson was:
"To use past tense, change the "masu" form of a verb to "mashita"
eg. "kimasu" (come) becomes "kimashita" (came) and "ikimasu" (go) -> "ikimashita (went)".
this lesson also teaches how to say "I'm from ___" in the example the man is from Vietnam which is "Betonamu" in Japanese so obviously I had to look up the translation of were one came from via the internet to replace the "Betonamu" part of the phrase with.
to say I'm from Vietnam (like used in the example) one would say:
Betonamu kara kimashita.
however to say "i'm from ___" would be: "___ kara kimashita." again the blanks being the country or place of relevance.
The last phrase in this lesson is "yoroshiku onegai shimasu." it means "Nice to meet you." this is considered a typical Japanese phrase and is often what is said while bowing - also a typical Japanese action.
Check the table as a reference sheet and listen to the audio download from the site at the start of the post if you wish to try learning some yourself.
