Invitations

It's easy to make your own unicorn party invitations. Cut 8x10 postcards out of cardstock paper. Fold the postcards in half.

Find a good-quality picture of a unicorn on the internet, and print copies of it. Then glue unicorn images on the front of the cards. Provide party information inside. Decorate the cards with theme stickers and drawings.

The wording of your invitations can start with "The magic is real, dreams do come true, (child's name) wants to share her/his birthday with you!" Then include date, time, and other party details.

As a variation, you can make your invites to look like royal scrolls. Purchase parchment or linen paper, and use calligraphy font to write your party info. Then roll the paper into a scroll, a tie with a golden or pink ribbon.

Decorations

Purple, silver, and pink are great colors for unicorn party decorations.

Download, enlarge and print unicorn images off the internet. Put them up on the fence to mark your party place. Tie balloons in bunches near the entrance. Mount a banner that says "Welcome to Unicorn Birthday Party!".

Decorate the house according to the theme as well. Hang silver star shapes from the ceiling on fishing lines. Fill the room with purple and silver balloons.

Tape images of unicorns, rainbows, clouds on the walls. Place theme related activity books, coloring pages and crayons on coffee tables. Hang a personalized "Happy Birthday" sign. Decorate with colorful paper streamers all around the scene.

Cover the table with a purple table cloth. Place unicorn blowout or beanbag in the middle for a centerpiece. Tie helium balloons to the backs of the chairs. Play fairy tale music in the background.

Guest Arrival and Introductory Activities

*Face Painting: As the guests enter the door, decorate their faces with face paint. Draw hearts, flowers, butterflies, rainbows, and so on.

*Edible Bracelets: Put doughnut-shaped cereal and candy (e.g. gummy rings, Lifesavers, Cheerios, etc.) in individual bowls. Give the children strings and invite them to create their own cool edible bracelets.

*Coloring Activity: Have theme coloring pages spread out that the kids can color while they are waiting for the other guests to show up.

Favors

Fill favor bags with such unicorn party items as theme tattoos and stickers, plush toys, cool pens, note pads, and bracelets.

Unicorn Party Games

*Treasure Hunt: Hide chocolate gold coins around the party scene. When all the guests have arrived, get them to find the treasure. Give clues to those kids who are having a hard time spotting the coins.

*Pin the Horn on the Unicorn: For this classic party activity, you can buy a poster of unicorn or draw one yourself. Create horns out of tagboard, place double-sided tape and write guests' initials on them.

Blindfold the kids and have them take turns sticking their horns on the unicorn.

*Unicorn Race: Divide the group into 2 teams. Give each team a stick horse, and have them compete in a relay race.

The first person on each team "rides" the horse to the opposite side of the play area, around the chair, and back to the starting line. Then they pass the horse to their teammate who continues in the same fashion.

The team to cross the finish line first, wins.

*Pass the Unicorn: Play a theme version of Hot Potato game where the kids pass around a unicorn/pony plush toy, or a similar theme item.

*Oat-Eating Contest: Fill bowls with Cheerios cereal. Place the bowls on paper towels spread on the floor. Get the kids to compete eating "oats" without using their hands.

*Unicorn Ring Toss: Before the party, cover a play cone with paper and have your child decorate it with crayons and markers. At activity time, the kids toss plastic rings on the cone for points from various distances.

*Horse, Horse, Unicorn: Play a unicorn party version of Duck, Duck, Goose game.

*The Frozen Dance: Have the kids spread out around the play area. Put on some upbeat party music and have the kids dance to the beats.

As you stop the music, they must freeze instantly. Those dancers who are still moving (even slightly) go out of the game. The last person remaining, wins. Give prizes to all the participants.

*Unicorn Pinata: Have a pinata activity at the end of the party.

Food and Drink

Unicorn Birthday Party Cake:

*Unicorn Cake: Bake a 9x13" cake. Frost it white. Outline an image of the unicorn in the center and draw rainbow in the background. Be sure to include a "Happy Birthday" message.

Unicorn Party Food Ideas:

*Heart-shaped PB&J sandwiches
*Unicorn breadsticks (take breadstick dough, twist it in unicorn shape, and bake)
*Pizza
*Hot dogs
*Bugles corn chips
*Fruit tray
*Marshmallows
*Swirl lollipops
*Ice cream

Unicorn Party Drink Ideas:

*Rainbow Punch: Freeze several Kool-Aid flavors (orange, lime, lemon, berry, grape, etc.) in ice cube trays. (Fill the trays half-full so more cubes will fit into each glass at serving time.)

Place ice cubes in a large bowl, and let the kids fill cups with colorful ice cubes. Pour lightly-colored soda into each glass.

*Pink lemonade
*Apple cider

Decorations

Posted Image
